1973 Corvette Convertible Resto
The deck lid and doors look like pools of dark water. Great work.
Happy holidays and birthday to Tass. Thank you for the continual updates of process and execution. You're really getting close now. Can't wait to see the final results: you, your lady, smiles on both your faces rolling through the sunshine.
Thanks for motivating me these past two weeks... Need to look at my school schedule and see when I get to come home next ;-)

Cold weather in Michigan is no fun! My projects pale in comparison to that magnificent work. Hopefully you can get back to it soon.
Here's hoping 2013 is even better than 2012 was for all of us.

Well, finally back in Vegas this weekend... Doing a "lot" of honey dos to get the house ready to sell... When I get some free time, been out in the garage working on the vette...
Was able to piece together the jigsaw puzzle of rebuilding the brake pedal assembly, getting that back in the car so I could install the column supports... No matter how careful you are with your bagging/tagging, some sets of bolts vanish into that black hole that likes to eat left foot socks!!! I was unable to locate the bag of bolts that had the shouldered bolts that connect the two column supports, so made a run to Ace to get some...
I hate to install these parts without a thorough cleaning and rebuild, but need to try to get the car to at least drive under its own power to board a shipping truck!!!
So far, I've pulled the radiator support, installed the Dewitt's radiator, and put back on the car... Steering column (with blue trim) is in and connected to the borgeson box... Brake pedal assembly rebuilt and installed... Power brake booster installed and master cylinder put in place to ensure brake lines fit... Need to pull master cylinder and bench bleed, before re-installing on the car... I am also trying to come up with a list of parts I need to complete the power steering remote reservoir install... Never worked with steel braided cables, so we'll see how this turns out...
Today, need to block the body of the car, so I can get glaze (if needed) and a second round of K36 sprayed this weekend...
Way too much work to get accomplished in the time I've got here at home, but it sure is a blast getting the garage messy again and working on the project...

Thanks much... Shooting for the first part of July to put her on a ship... Would guess it will take a couple of weeks on the "slow boat to Belgium"... Once I get there, got to find someone that can throw her on a truck/trailer to get her from the port to Mons!!! Probably at least a year before she's ready for the roads...

A little back-story... Not sure how other states are, but guessing most are similar to Nevada... Nevada needs to "see" the car in order to do a VIN search and verification... Since I pulled my car in the garage the first day I rcvd it, it is been in a state of disrepair and undriveable... So all my old title and bill of sale info has been just sitting in my safe... Certainly was not in a hurry to get that done as I didn't think I would need to tackle this until it got a lot closer to me getting my baby on the street...
Well, orders to Belgium has changed that calculus... So, was trying to figure out how to spend a day to rent a U-haul pickup and trailer so I could load the Vette up for a trip to the DMV... The DMV is only a couple of miles from the house, so not that big of deal (at least to get the title)...
Now, if I wanted to stretch this trip, and shoot for registration as well, then I need to stop by the Smog place and pray for a passing smog score... That's why I've been scrambling to get the car back to where I can crank her up and get her safe to run for 3-5 minutes to get the smog check attempted...
Well, I spent a couple of hours researching on the Nevada DMV site to see if I have any other options... Well, I do/did!!!
For the VIN search, any police officer in the State of Nevada can look at the car and sign off on the VIN verification paperwork... Utilizing the 6 Degrees of Separation, it happens that I know a guy that knows a gal that is married to a police officer... In fact, the guy and gal used to work for me here in Vegas, so a favor was easy to commandeer... VIN paperwork taken care of!!!
So any other options for the Smog check??? Well yes there are... Your vehicle can qualify for classic vehicle plates in Nevada if it's over 25 years old (check) and driven less than 5K miles per year (check)!! Oh, it's supposed to be very original as well, so I'm stretching that requirement just a tad!!!
Long story short, filled out about a dozen forms (about an hour), called in a favor to get the VIN paperwork signed (will cost me a lunch down the road), and about an hour at the DMV and Voila....

Should get the new Title in a couple of weeks which is plenty of time before I plan to ship her...
Very happy to check these boxes... Now to get on with prime and paint... Still need to get the car running (and stopping) before July!!!

Next, started with a fresh wash (clean water and dawn dishwashing detergent) on the front...

Next, dusted the front lightly with flat black as a guide coat...

Okay, need to start goofing off on the computer so I can get back out there to block the front of the car... Don't know if I'll have time to shoot primer today of will save until next weekend...

What a treat to follow your family adventure
Sadly, after viewing all your pictures and reading your text, every time I go into the garage to take what I thought was my very pristine 1975 frame on restoration convertible for some exerciser - I can't help but think about all those little hidden things that probably need attention. Thanks a lot
. Both you and yours have set the bar very high indeed.
Well done

working to get it ready to go.I got 18 days till I redeploy for home, it has been a long 8 months but I am ready. My Mom was at my house when the new to me 69 arrived. She said that she could pull the car out in the driveway and take pictures, no thats OK I told her, I think she just wanted to drive the car. She did put the new car cover on the car, she even cut the hole for the antenna and when she showed me she the car cover on backwards (LOL). What can I say, She tries and she does allot for me when I deploy.
Looking forward to your future posts.

been there. Paint looks great! Good luck getting her on the truck in time.
