Yes, order an AIM either in paper or pdf or both. pdf format is nice and allows you to do a "search" which in nice.

I also found that taking multiple digital photos before, during, and after sure helps in putting things back together properly. It also documents what you have done.

Enjoy the '74!

Welcome to the Forum!

The Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) is a useful addition to the information in the genuine GM Shop Manual specific for your year Corvette. Generic Corvette Shop Manuals (covering multiple years) are useful but the YEAR SPECIFIC should be your primary reference.

Another useful year specific GM manual is the Component Overhaul Manual.

GM also published a wiring diagram for your car that is very useful when you tackle electrical issues.

There are several sources for wiring diagrams, copies of the GM original issue are often available from the vendors selling the A.I.M. & Shop Manuals, and are also available fron the NCRS. Larger scale (easier to read) diagrams are often available from vendors that sell Corvette electrical components.

The GM 1953-1982 Parts Manual is available in paper and on line (several very large pdf files) it lists the replacement part numbers for your car's components and has "exploded" parts diagrams.

Finally, for free, is a download of year specific infornation about your Corvette from the GM Archives:

http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...tion-kits.html

At the web site page above, scroll down to Corvette and click "show", select (click) the year you want, accept the usage agreement and a pdf containing dealer and manufacturer information about that year Corvette will be downloaded.

Hope that helps, again Welcome to the Forum!

1. 74 owner's manual
2. 74 assembly instruction manual (AIM)
3. 74 GM Corvette chassis service manual

This is good, but just for fun:

Ditto:

Excellent:

These are handy, but not vital:

check ebay as they are there for sale pretty often. compare the prices and don't be afraid to buy a reproduction if one is available (my opinion). all the publications that mike has listed will definitely make life easier for you as an owner/repairer. birthplace of legends is out of print and pretty expensive if you can find a decent copy, but well worth it. i would add the corvette black book to the list. it is a pocket sized reference document that is very helpful with basic year to year facts. new editions (it is updated each year with the most current model year) cost around $20 and you can always buy a used one that may not be quite so current because there is no need for C6 information unless you want it. used copies in excellent condition can usually be had for around $10

Hi SV,
I'l say welcome TOO!
It's always fun to see member's car so how about a few pictures?
You can upload them to a site like Photobucket and then include the IMG code for the pictures in your post and we'll see them!!!! There are further instructions on the FAQ tab on this page.
Regards,
Alan

Ok thanks for the valuable info. I do have some projects lined up, and the manuals will be my guide. Already installed a Vintage Air system complete. Not a bad install all in all, except for some minor fabrications.

I bought the AIM manual after several suggestions from forum members. It has been one of the best resources for understanding how the nuts, bolts and screws are supposed to be.

After this I also started my own library of articles. Every time I read an article online about the carb, ignition, engine, vacuum system, etc. I would save it to a file, and print it out. I now have about 5 notebooks full of notes on various main groupings of my car.
