Default Support rod on Headlight assembly question

Here are my original headlight assembly supports. On the passenger side, besides having an inner and outer rod, there is another rod that extends downward. There is no such rod on the driver side. Looking through supplier catalogs and the Assembly manual, I can't find that there was this "downward" rod. Am I just missing this additional rod on one side and they are unobtainable?

What year is your vette? Neither my 71 or 72 have that rod you are asking about. Not really sure why it is there...

Hi,

Year is 1969. I think the assembly date was in March 1969.

Not sure what it was attached to. Car is now in process of being put back together.

If i'm not mistaken, it actually looks like a rear bumper bracket...

Shouldn't be there. My guess is the assembly was sagging and the PO used it as a support to push it, hold it up.

Thanks both for your replies. It may be a "Bubba" from one of the 2 PO's. I bought the car in 1973 and after taking out the supports see that one ear is broken off and a pop-rivet repair is on another ear so looks like it was probably tapped. I will match up with a rear fender bracket and see if it is the same. If so, it was probably "added" like said for additional support. Will update and thanks

ps. you can see the pop rivet repair on the side with the additional rod and the broken ear is on the same side front.

If it is not shown in your AIM, it was not installed on the assembly line.

I agree: looks like a rear bumper bracket. Hang on to it.
