Default 68 steering rag joint ( again ! ).

Hi

Yes, I know, many threads already about this, but I'm still lost .

The GM 68 rag joint P/N 7806391 is not available anymore, is it ?

Is the Ecklers rag joint P/N 23023 OK ? Doesn't6 look complete to me.

http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1969early.html

And yes, it is for a non PS , hence manual steering 68.

Again sorry for the question after so many threads in the file already.

Rgds. Günther

That's only half of the joint. Here's what you want

http://shop.corvettecentral.com/C2-1...-p9380067.html

Why not just repair the joint you already have?

Hi

Thanks a lot.

Guess that is really what I want:

Correct, complete upper and lower.
Corvette Central #: 562201
Original GM #: 7806391
Car years: 1967, 1968, 1969

I will probably order the assy and the kit. I remember that Jim mentioned that the repair kit is not OK as is due to no shouldered bolts and possibly weak rack joint ( not enough layers or so ).

But for the price I can try it and junk it if I don't like it.

Thanks & rgds. Günther

WESCH,

Order part # 000941 from www.borgeson.com, it has the correct shouldered bolts and the correct composition rag joint. You have to re-use your front and rear steel flanges if they're in good condition.

Regards from Down Under.

Just remove what you now have, take digital photos of it for later reference, disassemble it and throw all but the rubber flex-disc in some carb cleaner for a day or two. Order a new flex-disc from a vendor and rebuild the one you have. If the new flex-disk does not have any 'grounding' wire mesh imbedded in it, run a piece of braided copper grounding strap from one side to the other. Done deal....

P.S. Take note that the two bolts/nuts are different. Put them back in the same orientation that you removed them.

Hello aussiejohn

it has the correct shouldered bolts and the correct composition rag joint.

Their pic on the Intranet does not show the shouldered bolts, but ordinary bolts threaded up to the bolt head ?

@ all.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.
I asked corvettesteering.com if they have a 68 joint assy.

Once I have a new assy, I will try to repair my old one.
It is not too bad, just starts to fold the rag a bit when steering during standstill. No PS, so all the wheel force is transmitted through he rag.

Hi

I ordered from Corvettesteering.com.

Tom from there was very friendly, instant reply to my questions.

I am very confident that I will be pleased with his product.

1968 corvette Coupling heavy duty with ground $95.00
shipping priority mail $34

It appears that ZIP has the same or similar coupler, but a bit more expensive. A German colleague was happy with the 68 ZIP coupler.

Thanks for all help in making my decision.
