Default T56 specifications ?

Hello

A friend bought a used T56 for his C3 .

The seller claimed that it comes from a 2000 or 2001 Camaro.

Following numbers are from :
Housing : Tremec 13-86-066-904-H

little blue tag:

2552099 C0501

-86-017 MO 40439

Question: is it from a Camaro year ?
What is the HP / torque rating ?
what oil to be used ( Dexron 3/4 )

Is there any modified shifter ( angled for C3 position ) available and is it easy to replace it ?

Sorry for all this questions, but any help is highly appreciated.

The tag indicates it is from a Camaro (F body) and it was assembled on March of 2000. You can use Dex III but GM # 88861800 is what is recommended. The torque rating is 450 ft lbs. Most likely it has paper blockers.

Hi

Thanks a lot.

What is about the shifter ? Is there a modified shifter available, similar to the GM Viper T56 that was on the market a couple of years back ?

Most popular shifter for F body T56 has to be Pro 5.0 shifter. MGW makes one also but pricy.

An offset shifter can be fabricated pretty if you want the shifter to come up in the stock console hole. The Hurst shifter is a good one to use because the shift pattern is very tight and you can get through all gears without hitting the sides of the hole. If you want a custom look and can fabricate a console plate you can bring the shifter straignt up.

Hello

Thanks a lot for all hints.
My friend has now several options and he tends to go for a modified console in order to keep a straight out shifter.
If he doesn't like it , he can always modify his shifter by cutting and welding it to the left and fwd.

Hi

By the way, this is what I installed several years ago.

GM Viper T56 with mechanical speedo output.

T56 beside M21

Installed with the shifter that came with the GM Viper T56

With modified original C3 Shifter

From inside the cockpit, you can not see the modification, except for the Keisler 6 speed shift pattern I recently installed.

The GM Viper T56 6th gear is 0.5:1, a bit steep and therefore I had to go from 3.70 to 4.11 rear. Now this is a completely different beast.

After my install , lots of German friends went for the 6 speed as well.

What engine is this going behind? If its going behind the stock engine, its going to need a different bellhousing and possibly a different input shaft.

Hi

I am not sure what engine he puts into the car.
He told me that this would be a surprise.
I suspect a modern engine, may be the Camaro engine the T56 came from.

I think he got the T56 with the bellhousing .

From the picture of the T56, it has the throw out bearing sleeve. This would indicate the pull style clutch used in the LT1 set up. I would say non LS and most likely older small block Chevy.

Hi

The pic shows my very own GM Viper T56 that is modified for mechanical clutch .
This is not the T56 my friend bought out of the 2001 Camaro.

Sorry for the confusion.

This GM Viper T56 is rated to 650 Ft/lbs ( if I'm not mistaking ).

It is hanging behind my L71 tripower BB in the 68.

Rick, you wouldn't happen to have the pattern you used to fab up the modified shifter would you?

I don't know if I still have the measurements but I'll take a look around. The pattern is pretty basic. Here are a couple of pics. If you use something other than the factory Hurst shifter the plate might be a bit different. There was a guy on ebay who sold rebuilt Hurst shifters.

That won't work since it's for a T5 and not a T56.

Any hint what can be used ?
The T56 came with the 2001 Camaro bellhousing.

Why don't you just buy a bearing for a 2001 Camaro?

Hi

Yes, that's what I asked my friend as well.

His response was something like : What's about the pedal piston ? I prefer a Kit that works together.

I am not very knowledgeable in this and still hope for a good advise .
This swaps have been done here already.
