Default Quote Overpriced!

i went down to the interior shop right down my rode just to see what he would have to say about replacing my carpet and refurbishing my seats.

i know carpet runs about 300 bucks i have seen different prices here and there.

also ive seen new bucket seats that are nice for around 300 a piece

well anyways i took it down there and for the carpet and two seat combo i get the amazing $1800!!!!

yeah pretty sure thats not happening im just gonna do it myself like i have been doing so far.

or i could be wrong maybe its worth $1800 buts its a 78 vette not a damn ferrari

Actually seems like a decent price to me.

Kinda high...but you are just paying twice as much to have someone else do it.

How long would it take you to do it...vs how long he said it would take??? How much is that time worth to you?

I'd say the $1800 is fair.
Assuming quality materials and quality install.
Materials could run $1000 or more for carpet and seats. $600-$800 for labor seems very fair.

Of course you could cheap out with vinyl seats.

Do it yourself. Nothing dificult here, just time consuming.

carpet is easy, call Willcox and get a set for like $220.00. Send the seats out and have them done.

taking the seats out and breaking half the bolts and having to drill and tap new holes, getting the seat apart and finding them rusty, or the foam rotted to powder, all of which will most likely happen, will escalate your costs. getting old carpet out is hard too.. do you want sound deadener installed under it? Those sill plates always have stripped screws too..

when all is said and done, I would not do it for 1800...

Sounds like a great deal...
LOTS OF LABOUR to do it...seats a bear to get the leather right with the hog rings and the wires in the leather, foam probably toast, carpet hard to get out, and you'll need insulation too. I'm in Canada and had everything shipped from Texas...Al Knoch (great supplier and extremely helpful with instructions too).
if your supplier down the road is close enough, then go for it. You're right it's not a Ferrari and if it were, you would be paying at least 6,000! (I know because a buddy of mine did that with the seats only 2 years ago...special leather, design, etc, etc).
Good luck

i would say that im just going to buy new carpet and the other linings that go under it and do that myself.

then just buy two new bucket seats because mine are all kinds of messed up and do that also

i suppose it means more to you when its your time and your frustration that goes into it!!

It does not take much IQ to change the carpet out yourself. I've done it several times, its a piece of cake- unless you can't take the garbage out to the curb kinda guy.
The seats are only 1/2 notch up on the scale of hardship & degree of competency.... .
Not sure exactly how your year model is done, but when you order new seat covers MOUNTED on new foam, the 80-82's are a simple snap in after removing the old ones. I'd say you can do both jobs mentioned for ~$850..... It would be a cold day in hell b4 I'd pay an additional $1k for someone else to do those 2 jobs. Just my opinion.
Give it a try and ask for help here.

I just ordered carpet from Wilcox today. They have a forum member's discount and it makes it a pretty good deal.
