Default fender key switch

need to get a locksmith to make a key from the lock. i was wandering if the alarm key switch was the same as the door key switch on a 76. i thought the fender lock would be easier to remove but i cant get it out either. ive removed the c clip, what now?

In my limited experience other than the two wires connected to the fender switch the spring clip on the inner side was the only thing holding mine. It is a 77. may be paint if the car was resprayed with it still installed. And yes on mine the door key fit the switch and the spare tire lock. Jim

You may not need a locksmith.

Owner's manual will say which key arms the alarm.

Not shown on this AIM page is the wiring connector for the switch.

the clip is the only thing that holds the switch in (see the diagram easy mike provided) as you can see it is bent (the clip) in such a way as to provide spring tension on the switch assembly holding it securly to the fender wall. if you are hell bent on removing it, you might try an exacto knife carefully arounf the switch bezel to free it from any paint.

The only thing that holds it is the clip. The problem is it is very tight.
Try using a pair of the very small vise grips. There's a small lip on the clip that you can grab onto. Try rocking it back and forth slightly. Also there is another plastic switch that attaches to the side of the main switch. This switch is made of black plastic and looks like the one that are on the headlight assemblies which turn on or off the lamp switch on the center dash area. This switch is used in the case that the main switch is pulled out of the body.
Good Luck
