I have just had both rear spindles replaced with the bearings re set with the proper tools and tensions. I have just been informed by my mechanic that one of the rear spindles has broken and the other looks as though it had twisted. Has anyone had issues with after market spindle quality. The motor could only be described as warm with a slightly higher rated cam in a 290 crate motor, so I doubt we are producing enough raw horsepower to break spindles? Any views would be welcome.
Find out what brand and vendor source the mechanic used for getting those spindles. There is a lot of poor quality steel and/or bad hardening methods with some overseas products. If the mechanic didn't purchase good quality 'stuff', this problem is his/hers!
P.S. Any metallurgy lab can check part hardness. Spindle parts should check around 50 Rc, I would think.

you can`t go by what the box says, I hear stories about a well known Corvette parts supplier in TX putting Chinese parts into made in USA boxes, same company is grinding the made in Brazil off rear spindles and selling them as made in the USA....
Howard,
There's a new aftermarket spindle out now. Looks just like the "good ones" almost. These came from a very well known vette company in a set of built offset arms. Here's the best part. One side had a low grade chassis grease in the bearings, the other side had white lithium grease.
