So... I have not posted on this project in almost 3 years. Wow.... time really flies doesn't it. The project was put on hold for awhile to focus on work (started up two different businesses) and taking care of elderly mother and father in law, but I'm officially back at it for phase II.

I am gutting the interior out of the car completely this time. Sound and heat insulation, new gauges, new wiring harnesses front to back (starting with dash harness), new dash pad, all new electrical switches and so on... My wife kicked this off with a Christmas gift of the new dash harness from Lectric Limited. Super impressed with the quality and I'm most of the way through removing the dash and all of the AC/Heat systems. I have some photos on my phone and will post them up.

Adam

Old harness and column are out. Amazed this thing didn't burn to the ground. Hacks upon hacks, bare wires, melted wires. New year - new harness!

Hi Adam, long time, since I've been here, but I'd like to share my experience with the dash electrical, when I did mine. First, buy a hundred large zip ties and a hundred small zip ties. When you're laying the harness in place, use the zip ties to position it as you comb the wires. You'll find that as you go along, you'll be cutting off the zip ties, to get better positioning. This is normal. I recommend a spring loaded, flush cutting mini wire cutters, that you can hold with one hand and cut at the same time, flush with the end of the tie (the zip tie ends are very sharp, when cut). If you don't have a Power Probe, I highly recommend getting one, because you'll be able to test the circuits, while you're installing, to make sure they work. Also, don't install the top dash pad, until you're done. Much easier to access the harness that way, especially hooking up the grey wires to the speedo lights and tach lights. Believe it or not, the speedo and tach bulbs are always live! You apply ground to see if they work, because that's what completes the circuit.

Hey F22! Awesome tips - Thanks for sharing those. I've been wondering about the testing process as I move along and how to accomplish that. I'll be ordering all of the remaining harnesses and extensions as well, so lots of work ahead, but I'm excited to be making a big difference in the car like this.

Good hearing from you!

Managed to get quite a bit done yesterday and the old, beat up body (mine!) is paying for it today LOL
