Flashback post... here are some shots of the day I had the car towed to our house, and some of the early stages of the build that didn't make it into the thread. Hoping I don't duplicate any photos you have already looked at.
The car was really beat... engine hammering, trans making noise, 3 out of 4 brakes leaking, major wiring problems etc. My wife said it best when she saw the car in our garage - "wow... looks like we started a Corvette rescue shelter" Then she patted it on the front fender and said "It's OK... we're going to take care of you now"
Engine compartment the day we got it:
Pulled the heads to see what was hammering... found it
Lost your locking lug key? No worries, hammer and chisel will take care of it. Don't worry about damaging the wheel, some poor sap will buy this thing and fix it.
Started with 40 grit and worked my way to 2000 wet, then polished and buffed until my arm wanted to fall off.
And yet a few more flashback photos... custom wiring fixes. These were AC / blower motor wires. Not sure what happened, but there was a major meltdown at some point. Little packing tape will cure that.
I should clarify my reason for posting the flashback photos. It was not to complain about past owners shoddy repairs, but to show that if you keep your attitude positive, keep plugging away and laugh at the obstacles you run into, you can save any car you set your mind to.
Don't give up on your project! They are not making any more of these classics, so save 'em!

Man I wish I could convince you to take a road trip so we can work on our together, I really like your work ethic and knowledge. I know what needs to be done but knowing how to do it is another thing and I like your style, do it and do it right

Well, thanks for saying that! I won't pretend to know it all, and often times I learn as I go. Maybe that's just stubborn or too stupid to know when to quit? It would be great to work on our projects together, and I'm always game to help someone out if I can. I know there have been many a time on this project I sure could have used a second opinion and a second set of eyes to think things through. Like everyone else, I'm just doing the best I can with what I have to work with.

Keep on wrenchin!
Hey Adam, the wifey really should take my computer away from me after I take ambien I do think you do exceptional work and if we were in the same area I'd love to swap work but I'm doing ok with mine. Your door/hood and headlight door gaps are awesome, I hope I can get mine close to as good as that.

No worries! The door to hood gaps still need more work, but they are tolerable for now. I couldn't believe how bad they were when we got the car. I'm hoping to pull the doors off this fall when it cools down so I have better access to the front fenders and can do some final fiberglass work on those areas.
If we can afford it before this fall / winter, I would also like to order the new grills and blinkers to fit the '73 front bumper and get that mounted and glassed in. Unless I hit the lottery (which I don't play) the rest of the project will be done as we can afford it.

I'm in that same boat, you gotta play to win but I've never been a gambler so.....
I "try" to buy something every pay check to keep the project moving forward, sometimes it's just small ticket items but other times I over spend and my CC suffers for it. I'd really like this project to be complete in the next 1 1/2 years so I can really concentrate on retirement savings
