Does anyone have any ideas on best shocks to get for smooth ride on 1975 convertable? Complete front and rear restore underway.

Thanks.

I wont say they are "the best" for everybody, but I researched various options and decided upon Bilsteins. They suit my '70 convertible offering a beautiful drive be it on straight or winding roads.

Thanks for the reply. How is it on bumps and pot holes? Here in New York more than 50% of the roads are pot holes. Thanks.

I've found the Bilsteins to be remarkably good on uneven roads. I'm in Dallas which is not known for its smooth roads. I've had Gabriels, Monroes, KYBs and Edelbrocks on there and the Bilsteins have by far the best ride & handling.

I went simple and easy with Monroes . . they had a rebate, weren't pricey and since it's a weekend cruiser, they're just fine.

Remember, very few cars from the 70's - -let alone a sports car- are going to ride like a Lexus - -it's simply not in the engineering. I also replaced all the body mounts and bushings- that improved ride and handling as well.

Good luck-

Are you running the Sports or Heavy Dutys?

Everything is stock. Was looking for smooth ride better than original equipment esp over pot holes which New York takes the world cup for. (Never seen a city in all 50 states anywhere close to New York.) Restoring front & rear suspension to stock.

Hey Triple BBB- nice avatar. Looks like the car is cruising at 30,000 ft. It may be really cool to show the earths horizon in the background.

BTW- I have the KYB's. Rides good and handles well.

rodney25,

I have Edlebrocks on my 69 and am pleased with the ride and handling, although I would not purchase them again. What my research and their product information does not reveal, is the fronts must be installed inverted. This creates clearance issues between the tube of the shock and the control arms when the suspension is unloaded, i.e. on jackstands. During installation when I couldn't fit the two shaft bolts in the lower control arm, I contacted their tech support. They are "aware of the issue" and told me to lower the car and compress the suspension to line up the bolt holes! I should have sent them back at that point, but didn't.

I just installed KYBs for the crap roads in ny and nj. I am happy with the softer ride and cost. (under 100 for all 4). I'm sure I am compromising the handling I would have with Blistens but the rough roads ruled on my decision.

Thanks Mate, sounds like a great idea. When I get a few spare minutes I'll do a bit of PS on it.

Have an awesome day,

Boris :-)
