Has anyone ever removed the crash bar from inside their frames before rebuilding their doors?

I just wonder if the weight savings is worth more than the good they do.

I had to replace my driver side door on my 71. I found a door locally that was a 74 (I think) I was going to remove the bar as the 71 did not have them then decided to leave it as it can not be seen anyway.
There is a thread here on CF where someone removed the bar by cutting them out to save weight. I think they are just spot welded in. My opinion is that it's really its not all that much of a savings to make an advantage for a street car.

Don't do it... it could save your life one day! In an all fiberglass car you need all the protection you can get. Ask me how I know

6...almost 7 months later and I am still recovering. I was off Crutches and Cane for a sec...then I got too confident in my abilities now I am back on them again . But other than that recovery is good doc said everything is healing ok. Wife wants me to get another one(especially since I passed up getting another one and got her new convertible bug with the Vette insurance $$$)...gotta love her.

there are still a couple of breaks in their but nothing like it was before

I don't care if it weighs 100 lbs, I don't think it is worth the weight savings. Just add more HP to compensate for the weight.

Weight savings is overrated. You'd never notice the difference. Your life is more important.

Maybe go on a diet and lose some weight

Thanks guys. I only needed to read these five replies to convince me. The frames will remain untouched. By the way Clubby99, how did you know about my New year's resolution???
