*** 1968 Grille Pics Needed ***

BK
It does look great, & changes the entire look of the car from head on, but I can tell you this, if someone offered to do it for $1,000 knowing what I know now, I would have paid it & never looked back.
It was one of the few tasks, that I did over a period of time & dreaded the thought of shaking up the pant can & getting started each time. I usually am excited & wont put something down or away until it is done, NOT THIS...........couldnt wait to put it away, & loathed getting started each time. All I can say is take lots of photos, listen & read all the compliments afterwards & hope the pain, & suffering subsides quickly !!
I'll be sure to post pics when my head stops spinning

This is one of those touches that makes a 68 a 68

Marshal

I'm sure it does, & i'm very happy I went to hell & back / it really makes a difference !
BUT.............. I would'nt do it again. I would stop at the leading edge as you did, it would be a LOT less painfull !!

I need to update my AVATAR with the 68 "CORRECT" or shall I say "CORRECTED" Grills.

But I can tell you this, that I spent more time removing paint from where it didn't belong then painting where it did, and doing multiple coats so it looks unstreaked, smooth & even !
Not a one day, fast, easy, task by any means.

Damn - That's what I am talking about - IMO, PERFECTION. The painted grilles push it to the top - makes it really stand out..
P.S. Also love that "not for sale" sign, too.. Where did you get that???

PM: Me your address, if I see another sticker around at a future swap meet I'll get it for ya 68 brother !
The decal is fairly small, I placed it right above my registration sticker. People get a kick out of it at shows when the come close to read the registration to find out what year it is. That is another story in itself. SEE PHOTO BELOW:

427sixpacks turned out so well I had to try this also, but I don't have the patience or a steady enough hand to do this with a brush
there's no fast or easy way to do it, so I decided to try tape and spray paint....taping of course being the time consuming part of the jobHere's a before pic:
[/IMG]I removed the grills, removed the parking lights, and sanded down all the areas that will get painted with 400 grit. Then the grills were washed in detergent
[IMG]
[/IMG]One of the end grills taped with 3/4" painters tape and ready for paint. This one took about 2 1/2 hours to tape....what was that I said about having no patience

[/IMG]Found this in Home Depot....tried it out first on another part to make sure that's what I want
[IMG]
[/IMG]Two light coats was all it took
[IMG]
[/IMG]The center grill...it only took about an hour to tape
[IMG]
[/IMG]Here they are, ready to install
[IMG]
[/IMG][IMG]
[/IMG][IMG]
[/IMG]Look at that grin
the mark of a 68[IMG]
[/IMG]Thanks to everyone for the tips and ideas and big thanks to Blair for starting this thread

Now let's see what other methods people can come up with.....
