Great job Randy,
How far back did you tape from the tip, hard to tell in the picture?
Thanks
Nelson 007
Thank you Sir
I was just looking at the grills today as I had the front of the car jacked up, and as I crawled underneath I noticed one of the grills had some rock chips, looks like I have some touch-up work to do
What do you mean by the tip? If you need some different view pics I can snap some and post, but let me know by tomorrow 'cause the wife is going to Europe Sunday and she's taking the camera with her...
Hello 268xlr8,
I meant the tip that is in the front silver. I think I found my answer somewhere. You paint back 1/2" from the tip.
After seeing your grills you got in the mood, it's too cold to do much of anything else so I am pulling my grills off today to prepare for painting.
Another question. Did you paint the pocket where the running lights are?
Here is my 68. http://s1060.photobucket.com/user/ns...82930871595112
I painted the grill fins back to that little ridge, so 1/2" is about right, paint them top and bottom except for the top fin. RE the light pocket, paint the outside similar to the fins as well as the outside edge, but not inside the pocket
Are you going to tape? Perfect indoor job for a cold day...would like to see pics when it's done
Yes I am going to tape. I was going to start today but it warmed up here in Maryland so I decided to work on my LT1. I will start tapeing tonight and sure will mail some pictures
Thanks for all the info. I bought my fist C3 last year. I always had 1 and 2's.

Hello 682xlr8,
I just talked to my neighbor in Germany. I told him I was going to paint my grills for my corvette. After telling him how I was going to do it. He said he did something similar to what I am doing with is Porsche. How he did his part, he covered the part with paraffin wax and than removed the wax from the part that has to be painted. Have you ever heard of that?
Have a good one,
Nelson007
I just finished doing my grills I went through the taping process and saying its time consuming is an under statment. My center and rightside grills still had the old paint so it gave me a good pattern on what was painted. I used Dupli-Color Perfect Match spray paint BFM0383 Silver Met. it was a very good match to the origional paint. Would I do it again "Yes" it really set the grill off compared to a '69 grill.

No, can't say that I have...I imagine it would work, but cutting away the wax to be removed would be time consuming as well
Hello 682xlr8,
Started taping today. Finished center grill and cut two fingers.Tomorrow I will do the other two. One question: does the parking light cup get painted a non gloss black, or just leave alone?
Thanks

Yeah, the plastic flashing can be sharp parking light cup does not get painted
the restoration guide I had stated they came silver. It didn't specify a specific silver color. I think some look gray due to fading. kinda hard to tell from most of the pictures we see.
