Sorry about the late reply - THEY LOOK SUPERB. I "likey". I bet alot of C/F members are going to do the same after seeing how awesome they turned out. Time well spent doing this project. Thanks for posting pics of your completed grilles. Now, I just got to find some silver paint and get started.
I did send a inquiry to the publisher. They responded by saying the are forwarding my concern to the author (Richard Prince). I will post his response, if I get one. This should be a warning to all of us. When using resources other than the manufacturer we need to check and re-check to be sure the information is correct. Stay tuned.
Isn't this why Bloomington has a "Benchmark" class so you can see how they came from the factory....never been to the NCRS but assume the "Top Flight" is similar.. original UNrestored.
[B]That was painful ........
I would'nt do it again for $1000.00 I have about 10 hours into them & now i'm cross eyed
Must say your pics inspired me to take a crack at painting mine at the weekend. After completing only the center one I am of the same opinion as to the tedious nature of getting it right. And I am in awe of how good and straight you managed to get your edges! I went with a "chrome" effect paint thinking it might be good, but has turned out just looking just like an aluminum colour anyway. Will take some pics when I'm done.
Not quite finished with the tidyup of my rough painting of the grills, but put them back on to get the old girl out to a show at the weekend. Am loving the look of the silver grills and how it differentiates it even more from the 69s out there. I'd love to find out how GM actually managed to cleanly paint them like this back in the day though as they are a pain. Didn't have a fine brush available so my trick to get the paint even along the ridge 1/2 way back where the silver should stop was to run a toothpick with some paint on it along the ridgeline. Tricky, but worked out nicely.

After 2 1/2 months in the body shop for paint repairs, & after many hours of being crosseyed looking at these grills close up hour after hour, with multiple headaches, the fornt grills are painted silver & installed back on the car. It really does make it pop, especially without the front plate bracket. Now, other then the clear turn signal lenses vs amber lenses you can OBVIOUSLY differenciate between & 68 & 69 ................ Lots of pics / Enjoy !
I LOVE IT..............IT WAS WORTH THE PAIN & SUFFERING !!!
OMG, that's fricken AWESOME. Definitely worth the time & effort. Great job!!! Those grilles "POP". Your car is "BEAUTIFUL". Love the '68 Vettes (especially yours ) IMHO, the painted grilles makes it stand out from the '69s. Regards, BK3

Super Job
It looks like it took 10+ hours to get it painstakingly right.
I took a testors silver paint pen and did same job.
It took an 1 hour per grille piece with repeat coat.
I figure the only way some one is going to be that close to my grille
is if I just ran em over or their tryin to steal it
All kidin aside nice job!!

You did the entire 1.5 " inward deep rib with a PEN ?? or just the 1/8" front leading edge ?
