Despite what you may think, almost any black is tough to do. I've had black cars since the 70s, and if you want it looking good, you basically have to do the whole panel. I'm sure the "metallic blacks" are the same way.
It's a beautiful paint...but I think it's more appropriate for a high-end luxury car or a custom car. If someone went over-the-top on 'tricking' out a C3, it might look good. For a nearly stock C3, the "Fire Mist" option colors of the early 70's would have the most metal-flake that still looks good, IMO.

I know what you mean. But metallic blacks, like other basic blacks, all differ a little. My wife's Jag, as I mentioned earlier, is one of the metallic blacks, but it is subtle. I was looking at a '12 Jag XJ recently, and they've changed the formulaa for their metallic black, possible due to the tsunami wrecking the paint factory in Japan last year, and the new black isn't as "black" as it used to be. It has more of a grey cast to it.
I had an '85 Firebird that was black, but it was done when the new waterbourne color were first being used. By itself, the car looked black, but next to an older acrylic lacquer, black car, it looked milky.

When I was at my local Caddy parts department the other day there was a brand new black diamond CTS-V sitting nearby in the lot, and at first (and second) glance I honestly thought it was dirty until I got close enough to read the window sticker. Yes, it's one bada$$ car, but I'd urge anyone considering the color to make sure and take a look at it outdoors and away from the car show lights before committing.
Seeing it up close will show a clear
distinction. Black diamond is a solid black with the metal in a layer of clear coat above that. None of the flake is embedded in the black.
