I have a 72 coupe that did not have a stereo in it when I bought it from PO. I am wanting to add one as I am putting all the interior back together. I asked in the for sale section of this forum if anyone had a bezel that was already cut to fit a single DIN stereo so I wouldn't destroy my original. Another member has one but just above the clock there is a single light and a push button. My 72 does not have this. Isn't this like the seat belt warning reset? Can I remove this piece and shave down the divider and make it look like my 72 bezel? I think 69-71 are the same bezels and then 72-76 are a bit different. The one for sale from other forum member is already cut in the radio area anyways....
any help here would be great!
Thanks,
Sully

The only difference between the 69-71 and 72-76 bezels (I think) is that the opening for the warning light, on the left side of the later bezel, does not have a horizontal bar across the center of it (like the right-side opening has). That opening on the earlier bezel had a lamp and lens on the upper half and a push button in the lower portion. The later bezel just had a single lamp/lens for the entire elongated opening.
Hi,
I believe 7T1 is right.
The earlier bezels have the bar that divides the left side warning into 2 distinct squares. The 72+ is a larger single rectangle.
The reproduction bezels are really only correct for the 72+ cars. The producer glues a bar in place for 69-71, but it's not like the original.

Alan
PS: Also, on the reproduction bezel the letters for the word 'tuning' run up hill; they're not level like the originals.
