Mark.according to the vin on the car,it is a 71.I know it should have steel bumpers and I am not sure if it's the correct hood.It appears to be an original v8 4 spd. car,now has sb auto.I just picked this thing up and am trying to find any info on it.
It does appear to be the old Greenwood wagon kit, but nothing looks like a 71 Corvette on that car!
As an FYI, the front bumper is a 73-74, the center grill is a 70-72 and the outer front grills could be either 73-74 or 75-79's (if they're metal they're 73-74, and later ones if plastic), the nose emblem is 75-76, the hood is either from a 73-75 or 76 (if it has a ram air system in it, it's a 73-75, if not it's a 76), the fender side scoops are 73-79, the wheels are 80-82, the rocker moldings appear to be 81-82 and the rear bumper is a 76-79. The "bubble" taillights are aftermarket.
Some pictures of the dash and interior, as well as the VIN and trim tags, or at least the info off of them, might help identifying the year.
Unless you were a "ballah", back in the day most of the "kit cars" I saw around central Ohio started their modified life as refugees from the wrecking yard - - so I'm not surprised this could be a Heinz 57 of years and pieces.
"Salvage" titles weren't really in evidence in the early 70's when Ralph Eckler and others were coming out with these kits- so buying a C3 that had been hit in the tail really just started the process of putting on a new "sport wagon" rear clip.
Haven't see one of those in a long time and always thought they were oddly cool.
The hood on the car is a 73-75, with the ram air set up. The dash and door panels appear to be 71 (or 70-76 anyway).
From the VIN tag, it does appear that the car started life as a 1971 coupe (37 indicates coupe, 67 would be a convertible), and the "1" in the 6th position indicates that it was a 1971 Corvette.
The trim tag shows that the car was originally Brands Hatch Green (983 paint) with a Saddle leather interior (420 trim).
gbvette62 Thanks again for the info, you've been a great help.Everybody else thanks for your comments.Still trying to see if I can find any history on the car then I'd like to know if it was done all at one time as a custom or wrecked and repaired with whatever was available.Still deciding what I'm going to do with it,fix it,keep it ,sell it,part it???Thanks again sidenote- The car is in Albany,NY area and I think it was originally from this area
