I own a C5 but my buddy is looking at a C3 and needs the experts on this one. Let me know your thoughts on this vehicle and the price. Much appreciated. -rob
here is the write up. asking price is $26,000 1973 matching numbers 454 4-speed. Air conditioning, power windows, power brakes and power steering. Aluminum radiator with dual fans. Headers, Stainless Steel Dynamax exhaust, brand new tires. Showroom Condition.
I am sure others will chime in with more '73 specific knowledge but I would say if the condition is truly "showroom" w/no rust and all original then maybe worth $15-$18K and that is probably a little on the high side.
If as nice as described then over $20K. Maybe $22K. 454, AC, all power, one chrome bumper, headers... on and on. A real nice car.
I know 69VettFla paid well over $30K for his car. He must have forgot. Not sure why so many members give unrealistically low "expert" opinions. Offer $15K and the owner will laugh before telling you to get lost. Maybe you can tell him that price is "a little on the high side."
Clubby, I know you don't care much about getting along with others and that it is your character to attack, but your value estimate is $4k higher than the high end of my range. I am one of the few people who share with the forum what I paid for my car (not sure why everyone wants to hide it) which was $31k and it needed $s to correct things that were misrepresented by your friend (just assuming because birds of a feather) Corvette Mike so I do think that I overpaid somewhat given the amount that I had to put into the car after I got it.
26 much too high for a '73 coupe, BB or not. Dual fans + headers not helping the car at all. Id like to see it in person before coming up with a more realistic price.
too much $$$$
by how much well that is between the guy selling and the guy buying any amount of money spent is the right amount if the buyer is happy
69vettefla admits to overpaying but you dont see him saying he regrets buying the car or wants to get rid of it
i would say generally speaking that most cars for sale online are misrepresented b/c no one including me when selling anything wants it to sound like a fixer upper tell your friend not to buy until he has a real c3 expert look at it with him
It appears to be in North Charlotte or 'Davidson', the more 'ahem'.......... affluent area sort of. It's not ghetto or trailer parks is what I'm saying, likely it's cookie cutter tract homes.
It may well be worth near 26K if it is as described 'Showroom condition'. Look at it from the sellers position. The time and $$$ spent to get it there, and BS&T also. As a 'showroom' quality car, I think the seller is asking all the market will bear, but for that money it should be just add gas and go period..... no issues, none. Still, the economy is such here in NC. that a lot of toys have found their way to Craigslist. Keep in mind that Craigslist is 'free' and that has some bearing on what the value might actually be. Rather than a private sale or selling on Ebay (which cost), the owner likely has substantial room for negotiations by virtue of not wanting to spend anything to sell it. It may be another attempt to downsize because of monetary insolvency on his part and a real need to liquidate and come up with assets to pay bills. Were it me, I'd make an offer, and state that the owner just keep it in the back of their mind, if selling becomes ineffective and an emergency liquidation is necessary, and that you don't mean to offend with that number, but that it is all your budget will allow. He/She might just be persuaded after all to accept your offer towards the end of the month as bills come due. I know this sounds predatory but, it's the game we play with the toys we have trying to keep them all.

I don't know how you can put a figure on it without actually going to see what it is. Depends on what's there and what has been changed and needs to be redone... or whether you are just looking for a driver and don't care about the headers and fans, etc., and whatever else is wrong with the car. If the car is otherwise righteous that price is not out of line.
if it is truly in showroom condition, then it is easily worth that.
its a big block with air.. a huge premium for that.. original engine premium? a huge premium for that, if you can prove it.
the radiator fans and headers, a huge downgrade for that.
if a potential buyer agrees that it is in showroom condition, then yes it is worth it. Find another one cheaper in showroom condition? Nope
But, reality is that it is probably not in showroom condition, has rust, may have questionable numbers. the underside and paint and interior and numbers is what makes these worth so much.
if you are looking for a BB with air, it is worth a look.
Thank you for the great insight.... I have seen this car, and have taken all your feedback into account, as I am the buyer. I believe the car is likely worth 22K - 23K, it's about a 8.5 out of a 10 point scale. It's a clean car... I bought the car... hopefully I didn't pay too much!
Congrats - don't look back and just enjoy Unless you are planning on selling it soon, it really doesn't matter if you paid a couple of grand more or less than it is worth.

Looked like a nice car. I estimated $22K but was probably low. Don't listen to all these experts who downgrade all cars but their own.
These same experts way over value their own cars. I always found that ironically odd.
