Default Need a little help please...

First here is more or less what my engine bay looks like.....pretty much unmolested for nearly 40 years...someone changed the valve covers and I just cleaned and painted the air cleaner thingy..

What is this piece called..

I am talking about the rubber that used to be on top of this radiator bracket?

I cleaned and painted the brake fluid resevoir it looked worse than this...

it turned out nice... and really needed it

but am having trouble drawing a line...want to leave the "patina" but yet not be ugly...so, should I paint the hood latching mechanism also?

the one on the drivers side isn't as bad..

I can tell you that once you start pulling parts out to clean and paint eventually you have to end up doing them all. The 50 / 50 look of painted and original isn't appealing if you already lean more towards liking something freshly restored. If the plan is to do it slowly then you're fine but don't expect to be satisfied by painting a part here and there and leaving everything else as is.

I think your right Mark I think I'll try and quit...I really like the unrestored look...might have to scratch up some of what I've done...hehe.

if your going to leave it like that then get some stock valve covers and work on them to look like the rest of it and pull the radiator and either paint it or get a stock looking on, it really sticks out.

Pull the radiator to paint it......dude I put it in....that's like asking the dentist to pull my molar so I can whiten it....then put it back..
I know your right...I just don't have the energy for that one yet...I'll have to really be sick of seeing that shiny aluminum...by the way the car used to over heat sitting at a stop light...now it stays on 190 all the time....

I am going to ask the guy I traded for the valve covers.. if I remember he said he has them....at the time didn't think it was a big deal to get them
ooooooooooopppps!
