Is this what your after?

Two bolts up from the bottom and then a long one through the two flange and a tube inside the cross-member (kind of like a motor mount)

There are captive nuts or nutplates or something...

Such a pisser. Why didn't GM put the removable crossmember in both auto and manual trans cars? On warranty manual tranny/clutch replacements, you'd think It'd save them a lot of money. Why didn't they make all the frames with removable cross members and the little tab for the manual clutch car's Z bars. The manufacturing cost to make a frame compatible with both manual and auto tranny's would have been so small.

Doesn't seem to be any access near that area either.
The only way I can see it would be to weld short threaded studs to the frame and put nuts on the bottom

or

weld two nuts to a strip of metal that are spaced for the crossmember, if you make it right you should be able to sneak it into the slotted tie-down hold at the back of the frame and use a wire to snake it up into position, with much screwing around you should be able to get bolts into each one

or

Find the largest washer/nut that will fit into one of the tie-down holes at the rear of the frame there somewhere.
Drill an oversize (for the bolt) in the right locations
Sneak a wire into that hole and down to the back and snake the nut up into the right spot and then tack it in place around the outside of the hole you drilled.

I've really wondered about the welded vs removable crossmember, looking at the way this mounts I have no idea why they figured a standard shift would move it.

Anyway, there's a fair size tie-down hole at the back of the frame there.

Good luck

Default Have Auto Xmember ...

I have an auto trans crossmember if you want it.Problem is I live in Hawaii but can ship it, if you want to pay for the shipping. If you have a TKO trans I researched and a Bowtie Overdrive 700r4 crossmember is supposed to work.I used one on my Richmond 6spd but had to modify it some because they sent the wrong year and I didn't want to send it back.
What most guys do that have a manual crosmember, they will cut it and weld plates to the ends then bolt it up.There are several write ups of how to do it...Good luck....

Cut a hole in the bottom of the frame about halfway between where the nuts are welded in. Use that as access to get the nuts in proper location when you tack-weld them in place. Then just weld the piece [you cut out] back in place or weld a cover over it. That will be hidden by the removeable frame section.

You'll have to ask GM.

Obviously, it wasn't small or GM would have made the switch from the second they learned they could save money.
