Hi Guys,
MY 1975 Stingray has a side emblem that just says "Stingray," but I've noticed a few pics of 75's that also include a small circular emblem infront of the word Stingray. (like pictured below)
I know the experts here can help me with the disparity by answering a couple questions: What is this little circle emblem? Should it be on my 75? (L48, T-tops) If so, where could I find one? and / or Should I bother?
Thanks in advance to the expert panel.
That is actually not an emblem in front of the stingray. It is a keyhole for the hood lock. As to why some have the hood lock and others don't, I couldn't tell you but I have the hood lock on my 77.
Wow, crazy timing. While I wait for other stuff; I am doing a million other things at once, and while I'm nowhere ready for paint I was cleaning my Stingrays. Just wondering weather to reapply the flat black outline, or leave them all chrome. I see in these two pictures that one is black outlined and one is not. I do have a lot of other chrome ( wiper door, wiper grill, rear vent grills, etc.). I guess I can do one at see if it turns out to my liking; if not, I have lots of Acetone. Does anyone else keep theirs all chrome? Thanks.
The early C3's had the script with ONLY the flat background part of that emblem painted black. Later, they went to painting the background and the sides of the [chrome] lettering black.
I've tried to refinish my '71 script the "proper" way with ZERO success. It's almost impossible to get only the background painted, without getting any on the sides of the lettering. But, it's relatively easy to paint it ALL black, then wipe the paint off the outer surface of the lettering.
Actually, I like the way the 'later' version looks, anyway.
Walk around the other side??? You guys are hilarious...
You gotta let the newbie be an idiot form time to time.
Man, that's funny.
You are not an idiot and you do have a good sense of humor! Yes that is the alarm system triggered by the hood and the doors (mechanical senors unlike today). In later C3 years the t-tops were included as well. Strangely, mine still works on my 1974. The Stingray emblem shown is another story for another time. One of my little mod moments.

All 69-76 "Stingray" emblems installed by the factory, were painted the same. The raised area of the emblem, closest to the body, was painted black, while the relief area on the side of the emblem was left chrome.
Later GM Service Replacement emblems, had the complete side of the emblem painted black, not just the raised area. Non of these were ever factory installed on a Corvette.

AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual?) will have a diagram of every single piece of your 'vette. It's a little hard to read, as it wasn't really meant to be a reference manual, but instructions for the guys on the assembly line. I don't know what I would do without mine, every C3 owner should definitely get one for their year car.
