Gas guage

just filled up the tank,was waiting for it to hit 5 bucks a gal but i needed it today..anyway..i noticed my guage only went up to 3 qr,full and when i drive it bounces supwitdat,,any body no?? im pretty sure something needs replaced no duh,,is there a simple fix ,and yes i tapped on it..

You may need a float on your fuel tank sending unit.

You could also have a corroded [poor] ground connection at the gas tank or a fraying signal wire going to the gauge. But, a bad sender is the most likely cause.

Are you sure the tank is really full? If i just stick the nozzle in the tank of my '76 and let it shut off, I'm nowhere near full. To get it full, I have to hold the nozzle up several inches.
