I went in search of my cars build sheet on the gas tank and this is what I found when peering through the gas cap to the top of the tank.
It just barely there but not more than a few inches of it left.
Good news is that I did not really need it to find out what the car came with as it still is 95% original. But it sure would have been nice to have the sheet to frame up with the car. Maybe I will get lucky and find one hidden elsewhere in the car.
I was finally able to get the remains of the build sheet out through the gas tank fill cap area. It came off relatively easy and the glue helped preserve the portion of it that was remaining.
I got really lucky and the few bits of remaining paper had almost all the information I needed.
I already knew what options the car came from the factory with but the sheet helped confirm beyond a reasonable doubt.
I also got a few surprises with finding out that it came from the factory with a black top instead of white and it also came with the auxiliary hard top.
I was already planning to replace the soft top with a black one this summer but this helps solidify that decision.
Hi sv,
VERY nice, (and lucky), find.
I think it's amusing to think of the workers slapping that sheet on the tank NEVER suspecting that it would mean so much to someone 40+ years later.
Regards,
Alan
SoggyVette,
Take a look at my last post about fuel line replacement..there is a picture of my build sheet I found..mine was on the top of the fuel tank shield.

That's exciting and look like there was a lot more of it left than I got. Looks readable too.
