will my 1976 corvette be worth more as a numbers matching stock vette, or if i beefed up the engine making it alot quicker by getting new heads and intake? Note: stock it only has 180hp and its low hp is the main reason it is a more undesirable year of vette
76s are worth what somebody will give because they want a vette with selling points as last year for the Stingray.
If you hot rod one you might as well really spend some money because just a few little changes aren't going to help the value any.
People would buy this car because it was the car they wanted at reasonable price.
"Numbers matching" does not mean much on a 1976. Few people look upon them as a classic or as investment material.
Well, when you get done with your 'beefed up,' base-engine, late 70's, low power engine, there may not be much left for the next guy to buy.
But, that's your choice. Use and enjoy the car, or take care of it so that the next owner can do the same. Both methods of ownership are valid. But, if you choose "Door #1", don't expect to get top-dollar for a 'numbers matching', factory-original car when you sell it.

Not knocking the rubber bumper cars, but make the car fun and enjoy it. I just found a nice little 77 roller for peanuts last week. Its getting a 454 this summer.

unless your 76 is a low mileage garage queen make it what you want to drive...16 seconds... do you even think its that fast? have you not been smoked by the soccer moms in minivans yet? lets not even talk about the suburbans. now the best reason to keep it stock is that it becomes harder to get absolutely upside down in these things if you dont change everything. me i am way upside down in my 77 and loving life.
Your car, like my 77, will never be worth anything as a collectible car. I've redone the drivetrain in mine so that it runs mid 12s easily and looks original from the outside. Best of both worlds.

Stock and unmolested. Sell your stocker as is and purchase another you can mod.
