I was thinking on buying the Chambered Exhuast from Ecklers, has anyone had any experience with this system? Or is there another system out there that is better? I like the side pipe sound without the side pipe cost.
Hi h,
Just my 2 cents!
The under-car chambered exhaust sound great!
BUT, the car sounds like a Camaro, not a Corvette.
If you want a loud , racy, sound, they're a good choice.
If you want it to sound like a Corvette with side-exhaust... not quite.
Regards,
Alan
a chambered exhaust will be music to your ears. mine came directly from Allens Corvette Exhausts. Contact Mike himself for a good deal. I got SS; all the brkts; hangers; free shipping; and a trans mtg brkt all included for a pretty good price. Exhaust will probably outlast the car.
Mine is a little loud but on the road at a steady speed it is fine. It is when you step on it that the noise level goes up. I have what is referred to as two section, one in each side, I understand that there are 4 section, two in each side, but I'm not for sure as to that someone else may have better info about sections. ???
I had the chambered exhaust put on my 74 when I had it. I bought the exhaust from Mid America I believe. I loved the sound but at times it had a pretty percing brap when you stood on it. I had a local exhaust shop cut and weld in an H pipe which really seemed to settle it down and give it an even better sound.
Got mine from Mid American also. Love the sound. Shoud not be quite as loud inside as side pipes. And they had them for my long tube header. Just had to trim front pipes to fit.
Don't know where you live but I have a set of the chambered exhaust in my backyard. I live in western Nebraska. I went with the side pipes. The chambered exhauset hit the ground after I put in the monospring. I did like the sound but I was not running headers. You are welcome to them for shipping....let me know.
We have installed a set of "Allen's Exhaust " on our son's 92' ZR1 and man has that awaken the BEAST as they have said above contact them and let them now you are forum member might get a better deal. Easy install would have taken about 15 mins if we hadn't broken a bolt on one of the flanges fit and finish was GREAT.

I had them years ago. Here's a little write up from my page at the time:
November 26, 2000----------Here's a picture of the chambered exhaust sytem as it looks from below. I polished the pipes with #0000 steel wool and they look great. Much better than the pic. I had a set of old rusty headers and 2 in.OD stock exhaust. The headers had a leak that I just couldn't fix. It made this horrible tick-tick sound. So, I installed the original ram horn manifolds and opted for Mid-America's 2.5 in. chambered system.
One reason I switched to the stock manifolds was for the ease of bolt-on installation. Another was that at any time I could bolt on a set of side pipes.
I am aware of the claims of a HP increase using headers. Maybe mine were restricted due to the 2 inch stock exhaust, but after I fired that engine up with the chambered system it felt like a different car. Had much better response and more seat-o-the pants power. I'm still rehashing in my head why this could happen. But consider that the stock manifold is flowing the air, what? About 8-10 inches before dumping into a 2.5 inch pipe.
Another advantage to the stock manifold is the reduction in heat transfer to the interior. I don't have a/c and with the headers, the interior was like a sauna. In the heat of the summer, it was almost unbearable. Now its almost normal. The sound is awesome, very much like the power engine sounds of the '60's. The 2.5 in diameter pipes really helped the engine open up. So far its the best performance modification I've made. And no more tick-tick sound!
That was before I switched to a 468 BB w/sidepipes.
We carry the chambered exhaust kits and the stage two kit seems to be the best selling.
I have it on my 72 (vid below).
There are actually two different design's. One is made from the 65-67 style pipes, one is made from the 1969 style pipe.
The 69 style has a bit of a throaty-ier sound to it too. (vid below)
I run the chambered pipes on my 64 and my 72..Both Convertibles and LOVE THEM...
Put a set on my 76 and baby with the top on and the windows up it was like sitting inside a drum...way way tooooooo much noise...ended up taking them off ...
My 88 has muffler eliminators on it and my 98 has Street legal Predominance cat back s
79 does run true duals but uses stock type mufflers..
Beware of Chambered with coupes... is the point I want to make...
That noise can get pretty tiresome very quickly. Just a thought. I had underbody chambered on my 1967 and it did not make for a pleasant drive. I turfed it quickly.
But tastes can differ from person-to-person. Check a few car shows first. Most people do not mind turning the ignition on for a few minutes. The on-line videos are a help but are not a good substitute for the real thing.
Both cars above have bigger than stock camshafts in them, the convertible one has a mild cam but nothing huge. I think it comes down to personal preference on these.. I really love the way it sounds even on a stock cam'd car.

What Paul says is true. I have them behind Hooker Super Comps. Way too loud, especially when you press the LOUD pedal. I put a pair of Magna Flow stainless mufflers in the stock location and it quieted the car down considerably. Now I can get on it hard and not worry about attracting the attention of every LEO in the county.
