So I've been cleaning up my interior getting it ready for sound deadening material, etc. One of the very small details I noticed incorrect is the plastic spacers used by the bracket to open and shut the floor vents, had what looked like a badly made boot using some rubber.
You can see here, in this out of focus shot , that the left side is correct while the right side has the Bubba'd rubber piece:
Well I continued cleaning up the trans hump area and came upon something I've missed the 1-1/2 years I've had the car:
They must have fallen out because when I put them back in, they don't stay in place as well as the other side that was still there. I'll probably put a little glue on them when I put them back. But hey, I have my correct tiny, minuscule part!
When did they put these on? My 68 vette and a 69 part that I have do not have them.
By "them" are you referring to the black pieces or the whole sliding assembly? These would would not be on factory A/C cars as the floor vents are controlled by vacuum relays.
The little pieces, while not required, seem to give the loose (side-to-side) control arms some support.
I've never seen the bracket sold by any of the vendors, much less those little black pieces.
It was a pretty awesome save, got extremely lucky on this one that they didn't get sucked up by a vacumm. It bothered me a bit always seeing that rubber Bubba gasket. I'm just amazed I've never seen them before as I've had my interior out for over a year, I'm sure I've looked in their general direction dozens of times. I guess now that I'm getting down to the nitty gritty before putting my matting + carpet the cleanup is revealing some small details.
FYI I would use silicon rather than glue....good for you fixing all the little things NOBODY else ever sees....it is very satisfying to know your doing it right.
