New project 69!
Hello,
I just purchased a 69 coupe to restore with my son.
I'm in the process of repainting the speedomer, tach , gauges and shift bezels. I'm planning on using a paint like i use on firearms it's a paint thats baked on. My question is after removing all the paint i realized the whole part is chromed not just the trim. I know (think) paint doesn't like to stick to chrome. Before i have used a product called ppg dp40 (iirc) but i don't think that will bake well? What special do i need to do so the paint sticks? Oh i will be posting pics once i figure out how ! Thanks

Melting Slicks
Using Cerrakote or something similar? Try a piece and see if it sticks. I use LCW DuraCoat a lot and it sticks to chrome better than paints by a long way. Sanding scratches might show through, and bead blasting will kill the shine on the whole part.

You do not have to get fancy or exotic on any of the trim, bezels, shifter plate, etc. Any good quality semi-flat black will work. My personal choice is the old 5 ball Krylon rattle can. You can still get it through industrial coatings outlets.

Hi C69,
A 69 project to work on with your son! NICE!
I agree that a paint like Krylon #1613 will work just fine on the interior dash and console bezels.
It's very similar to what was used originally.
There are many methods for keeping the paint off the chrome accents.
I've had good success spraying the entire piece and then as soon as the paint flashes using an x-acto blade to slice the paint off the raised edges while the paint is still soft. It leaves a very clean edge, no build up like tape does, and is really quite easy after a little practice.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
