Silly question I know, but when you are buying a car it's always 10x more amazing than anything else according to the seller. I already knew half the things being told to me where BS, but I'm wondering if the part about a mild cam is true. I've already researched my block and heads, but I can't just pop off a cover to check the cam as we all know.
So opinions please. It's been since 2004 since I've personally owned a V8 and I really am not sure if this is how a normal stock 350 should cam or not.
After watching the video, it just seems to me like it has a low idle, but doesnt necessarily mean that its stock. Where does the motor seem to run out of steam?
I should mention the car has a Holly 4 barrel carb, elderbrock intake, long tube headers and full exhaust with x pipe cross over. So not totally stock.
It does seem to have a good amount of power and I'd say it runs out of steam at about 5500rpm
For a 3 speed I am pretty impressed with how well it pulls when cruising at 55mph all the way to 85mph. Engine feels like it has some stout to it.
That could explain some of the serious pep. I'm not complaining. Car seems to run well on 89 and above and ran pretty crap-tasic when I tried 87 octane.
You can actually pop off a cover and check cam lift. Take the valve cover off and set up a dial indicator on the tip of the bulge in the rocker arm where the push rod sits. Measure the difference between open and closed. Then multiply by. 1.5. (rocker arm ratio) This will be gross valve lift. (My guess is about .44-something)
Nothing was more amusing to me than one guy whose vette I looked at that was advertised as having a "Corvette Engine" as opposed to..... ?? ... a Mustang engine, I dunno.
The "corvette engine" is one of my favorite topics. Naturally a Corvette should have one, but given all of the cars out there that the owner's claim have a "corvette engine" in it, I cant imagine how many Corvette's are out there, stripped of their original engine for that reason.
