Default *** 1968 Corvette AIM Question ***

Could someone please explain why this was done when the factory was assembling the TH400 equipped '68s'. Thanks in advance. BK3

Looked in the 1969 AIM and this procedure was shown also.

Sure. The THM-400 {new in 1968} is wider than the manual trans (for which the C3 was originally designed...well, the manual trans and the Powerglide auto). So, they had to 'adapt' a "bump-out" piece to the tranny tunnel so it would actually fit.

Still there in 72, maybe they dropped it when they went to the TH350?

Apparently this is also why some companies (but not all...) list different carpets for the auto and standards.
