So do the dryer sheets work like the moth *****, just lay them out? I feel their smell does not last as long as the moth *****.
You would be surprised how long they last...and, they are much easier to deal with. Moth ***** are not easy to deal with. Ever try getting their tiny legs apart ?
Stored my 78 in an old barn (mouse utopia) this winter for 6 months. I used "moth" *****, but not the traditional kind. These were packets that weren't obnoxious smelling. I placed them about the car and only got 1 spot where a mouse made a nest, the under hood mat. Next year I will place some in them engine compartment area to help, and I will make sure that I can see them so I don't forget they are there.
I wouldn't do Decon because of the dead critter in your dash either.
De-con baits in the corners of the garage. Baited mouse traps. Mothballs in the car.
AND: Drive it. The critters are more likely to inhabit a car that is rarely or never driven.
Actually, I can no longer agree with this! About 4 years ago, I did the D-Con thing and three mice ate the poison, then crawled into my console and died. Took me entire summer to get rid of the smell!
Moth ***** in paper cups cut down to about 2" high strategically placed AND Bounce dryer sheets stuffed in the heater outlets have worked reliably since!
The only thing that worked a couple of winters ago when I had mice in my garage was poison. I tried dryer sheets, glue traps, and a couple other things. I'm sure I was lucky, but none crawled under the dash or console to die. I did consider that possiblilty, but figured a dead stinking mouse was better than a live one still wreaking havoc on my car. I did find plenty dead in the garage floor, as well as outside in the driveway. My dog at the time stayed full time in the garage, but the poison was where she couldn't get to it.

Yes that can happen depending on how far from the car you place them. But most of the more "humane" methods don't get rid of the mice. I've had great luck ridding my property of mice with De-con and baited traps.
As mentioned earlier, good learning a bit more on the critters habbits, such as the "bugspray.com" site. One thing you'll find, is once these little buggers make a home in yours, you gotta kill the whole family off, or they'll just keep on coming back. Poisons are a bad idea around pets, as can eat the dead mice, with not good results. Most work place exterminators use poisons, and these dead guys can really stink the place out. I've found my share behind desks, and like someone took a major pee back there weeks ago.
I bought these things from tractor supply company which I don't remember the name. They had them in the ailse with the rest of the crittter traps and poisons. They are small saches just smaller than a baseball. They are called a "natural" deterent. I threw a couple under the car for the winter along wiht dryer sheets in the car and did'nt have any critter issues.
The bonus of these is that they smell like pine & cedar. Last time I used moth ***** it made my entire house smell like an old ladies closet.
I usually keep a couple mouse traps baited with peanut butter, facing the garage walls. Mice like to walk along walls, and sometimes just accidently step on them. Throw dead mice outside in the shrubs, as will stink you out, if in the garage trash bin. out.
