Default Mouse Deterrent

I just inherited a 1976 Corvette with 9,500 original miles on it. Mice have a way of getting into my garage and Im wondering if anyone knows a surefire way of keeping the mice out of my car.

Besides a hungry cat Bounce Dryer Sheets seem to work very well for many of us myself included.

I used to use a moth-ball thing on a hanger - hung it from the rear view mirror.

Get a big jar of peanut butter and a couple of packages of cheese.
Wait until it's dark outside.
Make your neighbor's house more appealing to the mice.

Seriously, mothballs (the stinky ones, not the "cedar" ones) in a sock, one inside the interior, the other in the engine bay.

I've put one or two in a small tinfoil tray and put them on the carpet
Maybe put one here and there underneath the car on the floor.

It's good to know exactly how many and where you put them when it comes time to take them out

besides Bounce dryer sheets, I have also used Irish Spring bar soap, I cut the bar into 6 or 8 pieces and put them all over the interior.

I cut pine boughs and place them around. They seem to not like it. And I have 2 cats. I guess that helps, too.

De-con baits in the corners of the garage. Baited mouse traps. Mothballs in the car.

AND: Drive it. The critters are more likely to inhabit a car that is rarely or never driven.

I usually keep a couple mouse traps baited with peanut butter, facing the garage walls. Mice like to walk along walls, and sometimes just accidently step on them. Throw dead mice outside in the shrubs, as will stink you out, if in the garage trash bin. Check out the "bugspray.com" site under "M" for mice, as will tell you all about it. The site also mentions live predators(like cats) can add to the problem, as usually involves food and water sitting out.

I also do the Irish spring soap around my tires; 4 slices for each tire (N, S, E, W).

I also do moth *****. I put them around the exhaust so that they don't climb up in there, I sprinkle them under the car, then put several inside the car with an air freshener to try to keep the smell from completely soaking the interior next time I drive it.

I found out from a friend of mine. He uses Pepermint oil from pharmacy on cotton *****. Mice can't stand it. He hasn't seen a mouse since being turned on to it. It also smells better than moth *****!!

Drive it.....frequently. That also works for cats sleeping on the intake manifold...

Worst. Advice. Ever. Just wait until a poisoned mouse decides to hide (and die) in your dashboard.

Baited mouse traps. Mothballs in the car.
Much better, along with the dryer sheets.

Drive it. The critters are more likely to inhabit a car that is rarely or never driven.
Yep.

Moth ***** work great, but you and your car will stink like them forever.

I tried the dryer sheets this past winter and it worked great...almost overcame the moth ball stink too.

As for "Meow........"

The other morning I found half a Payday candy bar on my kitchen counter that was mouse munched.

I have 3 cats and a dog.

So do the dryer sheets work like the moth *****, just lay them out? I feel their smell does not last as long as the moth *****.

I can't verify that this works but something I read recently sounded interesting. The article suggested placing instant mashed potatoes in small aluminum pie pans (or a similar dish) around the garage. The little critter eats the potatoes and gets thirsty. Works just like DiCon but it is pet safe. Still have the issue if it crawls under the dash and bits the dust!

I have 5 dogs and no way will DiCon be used.
