Default fiber optic help please

1970 convertible..The fiber optic lights indicating that my tail lights are on, are lit up all the time. the lights are off and the key is off. Looked in a repair manual and the AIM but could not find any diagrams or direction. Any help you can provide in diagnosis and repair would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is direct light shining on the tail lights? That can be enough to light them up.

They are not lights, they are tranmitters of light.

An example...

When I was driving due-east as the sun was setting behind me last week, it looked like my rear lights and license plate lights were on because the sunlight was shining through the lenses and being transmitted through the fiberoptic cables to the console.

Is there a bright light shining on the taillamps?

Here's a post of mine that may help you about fiber optics.

Mark

The fiber optic system has no power of its own; it does nothing more than transmit light from the lamps to the console.

7d,

Where'd you go? What was the source of the light?

Don't beat yourself up too bad about it. That's what we're here for.

You're new here, aren't you?

Consider it the price of admission for the answer to his question.

With an example, pictures and an illustration no less.

Actually, I wasn't talking about you. Your response was very appropriate and informative. I may actually check my FO stuff based on your other thread.

The 'rudeness' seemed to be directed more to you and Mr. Easy Mike than the OP. Just rubs me the wrong way, is all. They didn't add squat to the discussion and I just thought they stunk. Of course, my post isn't adding much to the discussion, so who am I to talk???

When I first started on this site, I quit for a while because of downright crappy posts by a few folks. I still choose not to ask certain questions or offer some types of assistance because I know I'll get slammed for one reason or another. Shame. Call me overly-sensitive. That's fine.

Oh well. I hope the OP is extremely pleased by the guidance. At least I got some good info out of the thread!

He had a good laugh about it too.

"Sun comes up - Lights on. Sun goes down - Lights off" I think is how he put it.

Ya - I just finally found it on your old thread:

What even more funny is that TWO people got bit by this - the OP and his helper that "didn't sleep last night". Great thread.

I did not make fun of the OP - In fact I gave him a fast, succinct, and correct answer to his question.

The next post reminded me of that "board room TV commercial" - so I used the one liner - that simple.
And well, Mike has a propensity to re-state the obvious and be a 1st rate ballbuster in his own right. He painted a bullseye on his back and I took the shot. That's all.

You can't let this board get to you or you'll just leave again and be upset.
Next time you appear, I have 2 pieces of advice:
1. Wear your asbestos panties.
2. Let the moderators do the moderating.

So I guess we can add....Check the bulb on your fiber optic lights to the list of things to do..like....check your turn signal fluid and muffler bearings.
What will we come up with next?
