Nope. Magnaflows don't sound good on these stock engines. I have about 3,000 miles on my CC exhaust and I'm pretty sure the muffs are going to get replaced by Flowmasters sometime in the near future.

I'll trade you my Flowmasters for the Magnaflows.

No.. I was being sarcastic. They are old, painted black and welded on. I just don't like the sound of them.

I have the same set up , SS Magna Flows and it sounds fine to me.
Are you looking to sound annoying?
To me , I tend to like more meaty sound over how loud it is.

I must be getting old because Flowmaster 40s sound raspy and annoyingly loud to me anymore. The only reason I might run them is if someone could show me a back to back dyno chart... same car, same dyno, same day showing a real HP boost. Magnaflows are deeper than stock but not obnoxious or intrusive... I am NOT too old, I am NOT too old I am NOT too old.......

The funny thing is, I have the same Magnaflows on my CTS-V, with the rest of the exhaust being stock, and they are loud, the way I wish my Corvette sounded.

I JUST installed that exact system on my '81 last week, so I can't tell you if they get louder over time, I've only put maybe 80 miles on since then. I do know that they sound great. But it's all sort of relative. It depends on what you have had on before. The system I replaced was mostly stock, without the catalytic converter. So it sounds better then it did, and I can feel a liittle more power. I don't know about the Magnaflows though, that's a continual discussion here. It's hard to compare apples to apples though.

Jim

oh, and I have a GM crate engine, somewhere around 300 hp...

Same system here on my 74, 330 horse crate. Hedman headers long tubes into 3 inch exhaust, x pipe and magnaflow polished muffs. I was also told that they might get louder over time but not yet. They do sound pretty good when you get on it though.

Did exactly what you did on my 82 last week. Yes they are very quiet to me and was suprized. I removed a stock exhaust with cat but had the Flowmasters and was much more meaty that the Magnaflows without a cat. I hated the way the flowmasters looked under the car and was the main reason for changing them. It even feels like I lost a little low end torque as well which doesn't make any sense???
