just back from my weekly cruise and wanted to share what I saw today. A mid 70's C3 pulling a trailer!!!!!! ..............But wait; not just any trailer - the trailer was actually the back end(door jamb back) of a 78/79 C3!!!!!!!!I think it was either of those two years due to the rear bumper....could have been slightly newer though.
Unfortunately, since I'm chained to a cell phone all week, I refuse to carry one on Saturdays - alas, no pictures.....sorry guys.
It looked like it had been converted to a live axle, and some nice glass work on the front to fill the hole where the rest of the car would be. I didn't get to stop and talk to the owner, so I can only imagine the glass opened up like an '82 to gain access.
Funkiest thing I've ever seen. I knew trailer hitches were available for mid to late 70's C3's; and I've heard of guys pulling small "teardrop-style " trailers, but this is definitely a first.
Anyone ever seen such an animal, or have pictures of C3's towing trailers? Just wondering.
Our 71 had a hitch on it when we bought it. It was just bolted to the rear bumpers. But the angle of the tounge was way off, so the ball would be at almost 45 degrees. I don`t know how a trailer could be hooked to it.
Wifey want to keep it, and see if we can correct it when it gets re-mounted.
Well, how else can you go on a picnic with a C3? Where can you stow the pick-a-nick basket, the table, chairs, wine, wine cooler, etc., etc??
Using the rear-half of another C3 as a tricked-out enclosed trailer sounds pretty good to me. Just 3 weeks ago, I saw a 1959 vette with a similar C2 trailer at a car show. They just stuffed all their 'goodies' in it and had everything they needed.
I've been daydreaming for awhile about taking two '74-'77 'vette back ends, and melding them together, right at the exact middle of the wheelwell arch, and using it as a trailer. Tail lights facing forward and backward, in case you don't see what I mean. It would take some work, but I think it would be pretty cool.
I'm tending to agree with you Scott, as far as the trailer idea goes......although your idea would be a lot more than I have the space to undertake. It would look totally awesome though. I kinda like the idea of the back end of an '82 with the "hatchback glass"......heck even an early C4 would make a pretty cool conversation piece. Food for thought over the winter.......at least we wouldn't have to worry about rust in the birdcage!!!!!!

That is funny, but I don't believe you are actually hooked to the pwc trailer. The frame of the trailer is too high, the hitch would be above the lisence plate on the vette. Good one though lol Al

That's weird, it looks the complete opposite to me. It looks like the trailer hitch would almost be touching the pavement. Optical illusion, maybe?

Very sorry to hear about that. Those red XP's and the Bombardier quad and boat are long gone, those pics are pretty old..

one from the late 90s..
I'm going to have to say that I'm pretty impressed. I remember, back in the old days, when people/families only had one car and...there were trailer hitches on everything. My Dad's '65 Mustang did lots of towing of U-Haul trailers whenever we moved around when I was a kid.
I can remember when in 1969, the corvettes would go thru Sedalia on the way to Lake Of the Ozarks, pulling these boats with chrome hedders on them, well I had to have one of those cars! But it was a 76 I ended up with, but a great car.
my ex's neighbor tows his jet ski's with his vette....even thou he has 4x4 truck. says he does it just because he can!! i love that double take reaction!!

i am from missouri as well and have seen allot of crazy things being pulled by the red kneck masters to the lake of the ozarks
best was a geo metro turned pick up truck hauling a yamaha 20 foot boat he did it but it was really really slow going and pot holes ment sparks would fly
