The $170 price is for bare trailing arms only. There is a lot more involved (bearings, e-brakes, etc) to servicing the trailing arms. What issue(s) are you having? Unless your mechanic does this kind of work often, you may want to consider purchasing rebuilt arms and swapping them in. It's a job that requires specific knowledge and special tools. Do a forum search on trailing arm rebuilds to get an idea what's involved.
Just went through replacing the bushings yesterday..... Three people,10 hours....!!! As always, search the threads here.... Cost vs time ect.... But well worth it either way ....

I just did the same, It takes time, but well worth it.
I bought the racing trailing arms, love them, you can do the bearing yourself,
you can also check with yougi blairs corvette out PA.+ Brain is a good guy and knows his ****, he saved me a lot of cash when I redid mine
How much should it cost to have trailing arms repaired or replaced on a 71 I meet with my mechanic tomorrow and just like to know whats a fair price
Sorry, but what difference does it make? If you are not going to do the work yourself, you're going to have to trust your mechanic and pay for his/her expertise.
You can have your T-arms professionally rebuilt for about $350 a side. Almost all the Corvette vendors offer the service.
Around $350 per side to rebuild/refurbish the trailing arms. That will not include any 'hard parts' from your T/A's that need to be replaced due to wear/damage.
Personally, unless that mechanic can supply me with names of satisfied customers that actually had their T/A's rebuilt by him, I would only send them to reputable and qualified folks who do that for a living.
I wanted to do my own rebuild on my trailing arms and rear bearing assemblys but decided to send my original bearing assemblys to Van Steel in florida and let them do the bearings correctly. I rebuilt the trailing arms with new bushings and spring bushing cups.
Total price I paid for vansteel to rebuild 2 bearing assembles replace one of the spindle (hub), Labor and shipping was 602.00 dollars. The shipping was a little high but that was my doing with the way I packed the bearing assembles, Sorry No, I made crates for them and the boxes where heavy but very sturdy.
Did I mention the assembles look like they came out of the factory. I allmost hated to install them back on the TA's.
If and when I have to reduild the TA's on my convertible, I'll send them back to Vansteel for sure.
Our labor charge per arm is 287.50... plus parts.. if that helps.
Parts as mentioned above can go nuts if there is sever damage. Base parts would be spindle bearings.. shims, backing plate and then parking brake shoes and hardware...
My advice is the same as above... Find someone that has a history! Many people take their cars to "their mechanic" only to pay us to rebuild the arm again. Knowledgeable normal mechanics don't realize or maybe they don't understand how the arm is set up and in most cases they won't have the proper tools and will do more harm than good.
IMHO..

Had mine done by Yogi Bair's in PA. They sent me empty boxes, I put my arms in sent back to them and later my rebuilt arms returned ready to install. They do great work and are easy to talk with about any problems.
