Hey! Anyway, if the folks with those DORK items didn't show up at car events, what would the rest of us laugh at????
We`d laugh at the guy who....
"Had one of these when he was in high school" (2 years BEFORE the car was built)
"but his was______" (color that was never offered)
"and his had a 318" (Ford, Dodge, or some other make of engine)
"and he used to take it to the drag strip, where his car ran low 6s" (bone stock, no modifications)

Anybody run across the guy who SAW the guy who had the car that was so fast he put $100 bill on the dash and the passenger couldn't reach up and get it on take off?
I thought it was just me! What is the thing with the stuffed animals? There is a guy at the Dallas C&C who brings a stuffed bear as big as a 300 lb man and puts him in a chair by the car! And dogs wearing bandanas...

I don't get the stuffed animal thing. My son has the model of a 78 SA in his room, right where it belongs. Trophies, ribbons, bling I don't care.
I do like a brief history of the car or mods done, nothing more than a page.
I agree [B]Mooser[B] the guy that "points" out all the imperfections in your car and then walks away, he can take several deep breaths off my tail pipe. My usual answer is "when you own this car, you can make all those changes." That usual ends the conversation.
I don't mind some of the old timers that come and offer suggestions to help improve your ride, because they have been there and done that.
A very good friend of mine was very active in the 90’s in the local Corvette Club. He was often called upon to judge at small events. He was telling me about a Corvette that he was judging that had been restored and was a little less than perfect. The paint job had over spray and engine bay was a quick rattle can freshen job. The car owner could see that my friend was not impressed he grabbed my friend by the arm and said “Mr. Judge, Mr. Judge you have to see this…” He flipped a toggle switch and it lit up a long narrow aquarium that was in the rear compartment and yes it had fish in it. Needless to say Jacque Cousteau did not get a trophy that day.
I have a pet peeve that all of us are familiar with. Bad fitting reproduction parts. I have been redoing my interior and it probably has taken me twice as long to do it because the parts don't line up and you have to push and drill new holes to get it to look right.
Another pet peeve is used corvette parts. I ask for something nice and am told it is in nice shape but when I get it it looks like it was dragged from a lake. Now I know these are old cars but let me know if it is presentable and can be repaired. Also guys act as if they have gold on here when asked for a price. If I am going to pay a lot for something at least give me something nice.
How about the dudes that post their grief with the existing carb/ignition system on the car (81's and '82 Cross-Fires, especially), say they want to rip it off the car and throw it in the lake. Then, if you PM them asking what they want for taking that 'trash' off their hands, it's...
"Oh, that's some pretty rare stuff. At least 500 bucks.."

One of my recent peeves over the last 2 years of entering car shows are the folks who bring a 5 lb sack of multi-colored glitter to spread on the ground around their show piece.
After the days event, there's this empty "space" left, surrounded by the jillions of tiny pieces of cut foil and what? The now-absent car owner expects some maintenance peon to clean that stuff up after him? Not cool.
Once, I saw where a dude spread that chaff in the grass. Seriously? I so wanted to plead with the grounds keepers to send that guy a bill to vacuum his space clean.
Being creative is one thing but leaving a mess of your assigned space is not going to endear yourself to your fellow responsible enthusiasts or the property owners who are left to clean up and prepare for the next event.
I have noticed from the last several car shows i have gone to that the caliber of people attending them has gone down...... They have also seem to have forgotten that its a friggin "CAR" show.... and nobody is filming an episode of antiques road show... I really think that the gene pool is getting shallow. I bet its at wading level now.

Reason: cant spell
A local radio station does a Monday morning thing they call "Ten Second Beyotch" where the encourage callers to call in with random things to complain about just to get it out of their system or comisserate or whatever... This thread is the ten second car show "beyotch" of car show etiquette... only it's Friday morning... and it's more than ten seconds.
I have very little experience on the show end of car shows, but from the perspective of the wanderer, a pet peeve of mine from local shows and things like the Woodward Dream Cruise, would be the new car inclusion. What does a person who just bought a car, washed it up (if that) possibly think they're doing throwing a new Mustang in next to a 57 T-Bird or a 63 split window? Makes no sense to me at all. Sweet car and all, but apples and oranges.
The Cruise is a little different... But when someone takes their Beat to Sheeeeet 1993 Camero and runs it down Woodward next to a 66 Chevelle the only thing a person along the street can be thinking is "Get that thing outa the way so I can see!" Positively baffling what goes through that person's head. Maybe he is Bubba's cousin, too.
There. Now I feel a little better.
As for the little models... What kinda oil do you think they run?
