Default Carpet Cleaning

I have a light gray cut pile carpet (77). The carpet is dirty and possibly/probably stained by dirt and grease in some spots. Should I try to clean them myself or have them done by a professional or should I just give up now knowing that the results will probably fall short and just replace them?

Why not?

It's your money.

Also your money. Why buy carpet if you don't need it? Yours might clean up.

Get some foam carpet cleaner in the can....spray on dirty area and let it set for awhile. Then take soft brush and scub it good. Then take a wash mit ,detergent and warm water and wash the area. Then use wet/dry vac to suck up water. Let it dry I think you will be pleasently suprised.

If you have a loop-pile carpet, be careful with the 'scrubbing'. If you put too much work into it with a stiff brush, the nap will start to tear and you'll end up with a fuzzy-mat. Some kind of hot water/steam cleaning system will do the job best. Although I would think that soaking it in a solution of Oxy-Clean (oxygen bleach...not chlorine bleach) and water for a few hours might work. {But, I've not tried that yet. Thinking about it, though.}

If the carpet is not significantly worn, it should clean up fine. If it is worn, you might consider buying/replacing just the "front" carpets for your car.

depending on how much work you want to do, I would pull the carpet so it would be easier to clean. New carpet is not that much,(if you only need carpet). Sometimes changing one thing lead to changing many other things>

I've had good success with using a 50/50 mix of Simple Green and water . . .spray liberally, rub with a damp sponge, then use a dry towel.

Great for spot cleaning and have seen no fading or discoloration - - but if you need the whole thing done, best take it to a car wash or detail shop.

Probably should try first in a small area just to make sure there's no discoloration on your carpet.

Get yourself a rug doctor with a hose. Pretreat with Shout or a degreaser. Hit it with the Rug Doctor. It should do the trick.
