I have recently found a 1973 454 with 39,000 miles # match auto with air conditioning power brakes power steering and automatic windows. The guy selling it has all of the docs including protector plate and window sticker. The car is medium blue with black leather. He is asking $22,000 which seems to be a fair price .... I am looking for opinions if this is a decent deal and any feedback is greatly appreciated the car seems to be in good shape but is 4 hours away so I haven't seen it in person
Seems like the 73's have been a hot commodity lately. If the car is in the condition you like, and the price seems fair to you, go for it. In the long haul, few Corvettes will get the owner his money back when time invested and the cost of updating is considered. If you can get a car that requires very little work to be able to drive it, it should be a higher value to you. You also may be able to get the price down a little. I have been keeping my eye out for a 73 bb. Good luck.
As comes up quite often, if not sure of what you're doing, good idea hiring someone who does, before caughing up the hard cash. I've also seen, where the present owner can send you video clips of the the car starting, running, the dash gauges, ext.
I have a local on frame restore with the 454 auto tranny for only 12500.00 it started out at 17500.00 a long while ago .. I am not the seller but i am just pointing out in todays market it not hard to find a gem for a great deal.
22K is pretty much top dollar for a '73 these days. The car would have to be in perfect shape/NCRS Top Flight/original born with real deal everything for that kind of money.
Hire an inspector that really knows '73s to come with you.
'73s don't have protecto plates BTW...............
Couple of photos would be good - -sounds like a nice car ! You might put your location in your profile- members of the forum might know the car and be able to provide some feedback.
Thanks for the replies. I live near St Louis Mo and the car is in Tennessee. I've owned a 76 and a 77 L82 4spd and have always liked the look of the 73s.
Good looking `73 - - but then, I'm partial to the year.
It's a bit pricey, but certainly appears to be a very solid car . . . price is somewhat driven by the potential owner's "want" of that particular car but I can certainly see why it's gotten your attention.
Sounds like you've done your homework- I'd say it merits a trip and eyes-on examination.
Anyone know someone in the Knoxville Tn area that would be willing to check out the car before I make the trip??? Willing to pay someone through PayPal ...
All '73s had a smog pump, EGR and TSC- no exceptions.
Mine also has a bunch of extra [ugly] plumbing to meet the Californication codes . . .I had intended to remove the stuff, but am rethinking that to preserve originality.
Make sure you check the frame before you buy. I have found a lot of people moving south with their rust-buckets and unloading them on unsuspecting victims so they can go and buy a rust-free southern car... here in NC. Just a heads up.
