Default Interior Customization

What a great resource this forum is! I purchased my '75 C3 3 weeks ago and have already learned so much! I've decided to not do anything major (with the exception of changing my power steering components because it was LEAKING fluid big time) while I "learn" my car over the summer months.

In the meantime, I'm hoping I can get some advice/tips on where to look to do some minor customizataion on this interior. Most of the stuff I've been finding online relates to restoring to its original condition, however, I'm looking to update the look of the gages, lighting, stereo, etc. For those that have done some updating, do you have pictures posted? I'm a newbie to this time of work, so I'm looking to purchase "drop in" components where possible.

Any direction or help is appreciated!
Thanks!

If you haven't disassembled the P/S stuff yet, you might want to replace just the hoses to begin with. Most of the time, they are the primary source of leakage. Many times, they are the only source of leakage. With airflow under the car, any leakage will get thrown all over and it's difficult to determine exactly what is leaking.

If you change the hoses and don't overtorque/damage the fittings in any way, you can reuse them if it turns out you need to do repairs to other components in the system. Doing the hoses first is just an attempt to limit the work you have to do.

Thanks for the input. However, not being much of a mechanic, I had someone look at my PS leak and I was told that it needed a new cylinder and hose. I bought the cylinder and 4 hoses from Ecklers. Work should be done this week. Just curious, how easy would it have been for a newbie to change out the cylinder?

Any thoughts on updated interior parts (speedo, tach, etc.) or where to purchase?

Thnx

Vido,
its not too hard, I'm in the middle of doing, new brakes (completely wilwood ), hydroboost and borgeson steering box.

here's an article you can use

I recommend you look at the bracket that the power steering assist rod goes through and ensure the area looks good still. Mine was missing a bolt, which allowed the rod the shift the brackets position, which in turn caused the rod to shear and pull a part of the frame apart.... which is what got me started on my upgrade path.

FYI: I have no mechanic experience nor had someone to learn from. I do know how to read, search using google and watch youtube videos. These things have allowed me to do quite a bit in my life, including installing a car (titan truck) stereo with 2 amps and component speakers and a backup camera.
