Default Rivets in w/s? Windshield question

My first item on my to do list for my 79 is to keep the water out. In the process of removing all the old weatherstripping I've run across some issues:
1. On the "B" pillar there are 3 rivets in the weatherstripping. Not understanding why they were necessary. Pain to remove, I really don't see a need in putting them back. What do you guys think?
2. I have also took all the trim off the windshield and t-tops, except I ran into an issue here: the windshield corner molding apparently was put in before the windshield, making it impossible to remove without taking the windshield out first. Which has lead me to think that having the windshield reset (professionally!) would probably not be a bad idea. And it would make it look so much better. So should I or shouldn't I?
3. What kind of sealer is used around windshield and t-top trim? Is it that 3M strip caulking? Or some kind of goop in a tube? Suggestions please!
4. Last one, not related to water-proofing, but sound deadening/insulation. Considering doing doors, t-tops, headliner, etc in dynamat or similar type stuff. Any suggestions on what's best to use?
Ok, I'm done, for now, don't kill the newbie!..... thanks once again!

Hi d,
I'll try a couple.
#1 ... Chevrolet did NOTHING they didn't have to do. Because it's pain to do isn't a good reason to not do it.
#2.... to safely access the corner moulding front screws the windshield should be out. LOT'S of threads about cracked windshields because of those screws..... unless you're feeling very lucky someday.
Regards,
Alan

I glued those weatherstrips in on the b pillar with weatherstrip glue. No problems.

@ Alan: 3 rivets and a ton of glue on this small area seems a little overkill to me, but what do I know? Not going to press my luck trying to get that corner molding out with the windshield in, my luck is usually the bad variety. Just wanting to do this right, the first time, and not think later on that I should've done this or that when I was doing this.....

Also take a good look at your windshield... this is the time to replace it unless it's perfect. New ones are not expensive unless you need the date coded NCRS stuff. I paid $125 (not date coded, not including install).

My question is to Desue and Zwede

where are you getting your windshields from? I have the windshield out in my 1972 and the replacement is the wrong design. The size of the window fits, but the black band/border is too wide.

Desue have you found a replacement window, or will you use your original one.

Mine is a Pilkington DW714. As far as I can tell it is correct.

Edit: Just looked at your other thread with the picture. Mine looks nothing like that.

If you try to get the corner molding out do you need to pry on the windshield? If so then you could crack the glass and be in the same problem I am having with mine.

Safelite is coming (in the morning, as a matter of fact) to take out old windshield, then will put a new one in later. There is nothing wrong with the old one except for one tiny little speck where it looks like a rock hit it. I called a few different places and asked them about removing the windshield and resetting, one place said they have never been able to do it without breaking it, and Safelite pretty much said the same. So I decided to do it right the first time and replace windshield while I have everything else torn apart. And yes the corner moldings were put in BEFORE the windshield, looks impossible to get 'em out without cracking the windshield. I want to put a rust treatment on the windshield frame while its out too. So far, it looks good, only surface rust, but tomorrow is the moment of truth. Oh, the price is around $225 for windshield and install, Will let you know more details if you are interested.

Hello
Check the windshield that they are going to put on. The problem I am having with my car now is with the windshield Safelite put in. Now the service and support from them has been excellent, its just that the manufacturer they are buying from is using the wrong type of design. I hope you have better luck.

The windshield model number should be W714 or DW714. This has been confirmed by other forum members.

Just check out the glass that it does not look like this.

And if it is the correct design please let me know. Thank you.
