Default Headlight vacuum relay bracket

While reinstalling the headlight vacuum system on my 71 this morning I noticed that the bracket that supports the two headlight vacuum relays is missing. I've tried finding a replacement part online, but haven't had much luck. Does anyone have a photo of what the bracket looks like? I'm thinking maybe I can fabricate something if it's just a flat plate with a few holes.

Part #3966703, shows up on page UPC12 A13 of the 70 assembly manual.

I replaced my headlight relays last year. From what I recall there's not much to it. I tried to take a picture, difficult while installed.

I thought they just screwed to the header bar.

Hi MV,
When you look at the AIM sheet BBC suggested NOTICE that the plate has a 'crease' in it so part of the plate is held away from the hood surround so the mounting screws for the relays don't contact the fiberglass.
3 screws mount the plate to the headlight support bar; a template will show you where they need to be on your homemade plate.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

PS: Roger's point.... did the plate appear when there were 2 relays rather than 1?

I had some off a 73 a couple month's ago and I swear they screwed to the header bar, unless there was a plate and I thought it was the bar. Gettin old is hell.

Thanks for the part number Roger, that should be for a help as I try to find a replacement.

When I bought my car the relays were mounted directly to the header bar. It wasn't until this morning, when I was looking at the routing diagrams in the AIM, that I realized the plate was missing.

I'm certain I could fabricate a replacement pretty easily, but without actual measurements I'm not going to attempt it - too many variables. So now I'm back to trying to find a replacement...

When restoring a Corvette I've learned to always expect the unexpected. It figures I just ordered some parts last night .

It's pretty odd that the holes in the relays align PERFECTLY with the holes in the header bar - they bolt right up. They fit up so slick that I thought for sure I had the install right - until I looked at the aim.

BBcorv70 came up with the part number.
I just looked at my 73 AIM,I don't have a 71,and it appears to bolt to the header bar.
The AIM calls it the reinforcement.

Very interesting. My 1971 AIM definitely shows a bracket bolted to the bottom of the header bar.

Tim,

The relays on my 72 are screwed to the header bar directly as well.

Cheers

Thanks Vito - good to know. For what it's worth to the discussion, here's a picture of the sheet from my 71 AIM.

I'm guessing that, if it worked without the bracket in 71, I could probably do away with the bracket on my 71. I'm guessing the vacuum hose routing won't be quite as neat though.

Tim,

Be careful with the daigram. The top red tube is for the headlight washer circuit not vacuum for the headlights.

Cheers

Here you go. I found this pic in my album from a long time ago. It was taken from a May '70 car before it was cleaned up. Hope it helps.

Thanks Vito. I got a little carried away when highlighting the diagram. I chased that one to the end and said "DOH!".

Thanks Dave - that's a big help. Real good clear picture of where the bracket goes. Definitely looks like it would be easy to make. Maybe someone will be able to chime in with some overall dimensions.

On my 71 they are also attached directly to the header bar. When I had my car NCRS judged they gigged me 2 points for the missing bracket even though there wasn't a line item for it.
