Being born in 73 is probably NOT the reason. But it MIGHT be for some. I was born in 81...
I have a 73 because I love the look of the rear chrome bumper. It was not in as good of shape as some of the rubber bumper or dual chrome bumper cars that I found...but I got the price down, I loved the color...and I loved the look of the front rubber bumper and the rear chrome bumper. Plus to me it special because there is not another year like it
most buying the 73 do it because they want the chrome rear bumper look but cant afford the 68-72. had a real hard time getting rid of mine.
The Beauty of '73
"Larry Shinoda, the famous Corvette designer, once commented in an interview that the 1973 was his favorite of the post-1967 era because the front and rear styling were closest to what the stylists originally had in mind when this series was first designed."
(Illustrated Corvette Buyer's Guide by Michael Antonick).
"Zora Arkus-Duntov reckons the new Corvette to be the best ever, and after exhaustive testing of four different models, we're inclined to agree"
Car and Driver, Dec 1972, in their road test of the new 1973 Corvette.

9)Uniqueness, The only year that had both the Urethane Front Bumper and the Chrome Rear. Ability to identify it in the crowd. Significantly different from any other year. One year bodies, seem they love or hate them. Ability to identify it in the crowd

7) Larry Shinoda, Commented that the 1973 was his favorite of the post-1967 era because the front and rear styling were closest to what the stylists originally had in mind when this series was first designed

5) When I see a Vette without a chrome back bumper it just seems that the back of the car was left unfinished. The cars look unfinished without chrome in the back.

The number 1 reason is that most '73 owners can't count backwards from 10 without missing something.
I was born in 69 but there is no way I can afford a 69 vert. I could not resist my 73. It had so much going for it. Love the uniqueness of the only year to have 1 chrome bumper(I didn't like that 20 years ago but now have a real appreciation for it now) It was a 1 owner, barn find with 2 tops, 454 and 4 spd. How in the world could I walk away from my money pit? I consider it to be a bumper vette but most don't. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I do believe these will be more valuable in the near future but that is not why I bought t.
I bought my 73 about 7 years ago. It was the right car and the right price for me at the time. I have been working on it ever since, and its still not finished.
I did not buy it because it was a 73, but since it had a 454 in it, that made the deal for me.
