Just got around to posting the pics...Still working on getting the 71 LS-5 ready for this weekend and her first outing. Did this over the weekend. Had a friend blast the wheels with Starblast.all the wheels dated the same but did not see it till they were blasted with the previous painting in prior years..then my work started including taping off and repainting the center caps. Lot of work but the result was well worth the effort. Finished off the caps on Sunday evening. New tires getting installed tomorrow or Wednesday. Enjoy friends.
Thanks for the compliments. Stay tuned....I will post pics of it this weekend.
My buddy blasted the wheels for $50. I was going to use the blasting cabinet in my garage but thought better of it when I saw all the road dirt on the backside of the wheels. It would have taken me many hours for what he did in just an hour. Basically paid for his time and the sand and he is good at because it is his full time job.
Painting and taping the caps was the most time consuming. I taped off the whole cap except for the rib area. Painted it all then used a razor blade to scrap the ridges very lightly and take the paint back off. Then used a small piece of paper towel wrapped tightly around a small artist brush handle...wet it with lighter fluid and lightly cleaned the ridges. Change the piece of towel once it gets dirty(doesn't take long). Then I removed all the tape and hand painted the CMD logo and rings. Left excess on the letters and cleaned it off the same way once it dried with lighter fluid.
