Hi, I have to change my windshield on my 71. The windshield that came out was a replacement. The car is an air condition car. The question is was the original a clear or tinted windshield?....thanks
Hi,
I believe the original manufacturer/supplier was LOF.
I think someone (I can't remember their name) has the rights to manufacture glass under that name, but the supplier that other companies use to make logo and date correct glass is Pilkington.
Regards,
Alan
I am also replacing the windshield in my 1972. I did find a glass manufacturer that carries the Pilkington line, but when they measured the black border at the bottom it is not correct. The border was 4 inches wide.
To the original poster of this thread, where are you buying your windshield at? I am having problems finding the correct design.
Definantly think about going with the date coded glass if you plan on keeping the car long term or doing a complete number matching restoration in the future. Don't know what stage your car is in now but you would not believe how many times I have heard C-1 owners say "why did I not just pay the extra cost and put in dated glass" a year or two after they had one changed. That is the only tough decision. The extra cost of a dated glass.
I have to replace mine in the future (I have two small rock chips) and will go dated in case I want to do a frame off down the road being my car is correct everywhere else. To each his own choice and right now with the economy the way it is you may prefer to go non dated.
