Default Engine numbers

Where can I find the engine number on my 73 to verify that it matches the VIN#?

On the engine

I think it is Stamped onto the engine just below the cylinder head but I could be wrong the experts will chime in shortly

in front of the passenger side cylinder head there is a pad on the engine block with the engine code and partial VIN

Yeah the passenger side just under the head
