I have some gauge issues. My clock seems to work fine. My temperature sensor bounces absolutely wildly. I mean ALL over the place. My oil gauge and gas gauge both bounce back and forth. The oil gauge hovers around 40 but bounces between 35 and 45. The gas gauge might bounce as much as 1/4th of a tank. The oil gauge also bounces more wildly if I hit a hard bump.
I thought about a loose ground, but I'm not sure where it is actually grounded.
The gauges ground through the black wire on the temp gauge. This wire runs to the main harness ground located on the driver side A pillar.
But the multiple gauge issue could also be multiple issues not associated with a ground issue too. The temp gauge could be a lose connection on the sending unit. The fuel gauge could be an issue with the dampening fluid inside the actual gauge. Same with the oil pressure.
Most likely an 'almost' frayed-through ground wire to the instrument cluster. Any vibration will cause rapid, intermittant 'make/break' connections and cause wild gauge responses. Since the clock is 'electro-mechanical', it would not "notice" that problem; it just needs to see voltage/current for an instant whenever the internal electrical points close (every 2 minutes).
