Is it possible to source build sheets for a 1972 Corvette? I was told that the US only started doing this after 1977 or 1978? I have a 1972 Corvette that I was hoping to get more information on.
I'm in Canada and I have a 1968 that was sold in Canada and I was able to source the information on where the vehicle was originally sold and the options it came with.
Hi 327v,
For your U.S. 72 car the best hope is the tank sheet that cgc mentioned.
There's no GM build information presently available.
NCRS does have shipping information on many cars that can sometimes lead to a delivering dealer and further information, but not always. Many dealers are no longer in business and those that are often no longer have the records from so many years ago.
Have you searched for the tank sheet on the car?
Regards,
Alan
...Is it possible to source build sheets for a 1972 Corvette?...
No.
...I was told that the US only started doing this after 1977 or 1978?...
Incorrrect, but a hint of truth there. GM contracted with the Allied-Vaughn Company to put GM dealer invoices for 1977-81 on microfiche. That information is now available from Allied-Vaughn.
Some divisions of GM retained paper records. Corvette did not.
Thanks Alan and CGC. I will try the top of the tank.
Warning !!
The tank sheet was glued to the gas tank at the factory. If you try to just pull it off you will probably just tear it up. Remember it's only paper and it's been there about 40 years. Sometimes you can feel the top of the tank to see if there is one. You may want to drop the gas tank.
Hi,
Again I agree with cgc.
Don't be tempted to even touch it IF you can see it.
Once the tank is down you'll be able to make a decision about how to proceed.... if it's there!
Regards,
Alan
