speedo cable question

I was finally able to get my speedometer cable removed but now find that there is a little end piece that goes into the transducer. All of the cables I have looked for do not have this piece and I'm not sure if it is necessary to having the cruise control transducer work properly

all fixed now although its not perfect-I need to find a shorter cable length (the one I just installed is 62 inches) and I'm going to put in a 90 degree fitting as well
