I am putting a 383 in my 80. The car has a 4 speed. It seemed to come out easy but when I went to get it back in....
The last time I had a 4 speed car I was 25. When I changed a clutch I would just pick the tranny up, while laying on my back and slide it in.
29 years later I am putting the trans in figured I could do the same. Went to pick up the tranny while on my back and my arms couldn't pick it up. Had to jack it up and jiggle it in. It don't get easier.
I hear you. I had a new 57 with both tops and I used to lift the hardtop off by setting in the drivers seat and just stand up with it and put it on the ground. Ed
Hi,
When I turned 68 in June I realized I couldn't remember where I'd put the list I was making of things I couldn't/shouldn't do anymore because of my age.
Regards,
Alan
I manhandled my Super T10 back in the car in March. It took me about 45 minutes to realize I still did not have the clutch pushed in all the way. I had to cobble something together to push in the pedal and brace it against the seat. When I did in it went with that cool whoosh of a pin in a close diameter hole. I had 0.002" clearance b/w the pilot bushing and the tranny shaft.
Anyway, I was beat the rest of the day and sore the next.
I just turned 40 in June. I probably won't do this again at 60.
Unfortunately the only alternative to "not getting older" is death. I will gladly hurt myself trying to do "youthful" activity and bitch about it after missions accomplished .
Helped a buddy changing his in his Impala a couple of years ago. For the life of me, I don't remember anything about the Muncies in Impalas being made out of lead.
If we're fortunate, we graduate from Sears Craftsman jacks used to lift it high enough to wedge some 6x6 blocks under out in Mom's carport, and you and the neighbor kid using a come-along strung from the rafters during summer vacation to concrete floored garages equipped with A/C, a beverage refrigerator, a lift and an electric hoist strung from a gantry. Still need the neighbor occasionally; it sucks to drink alone.
I picked up an engine block a couple years ago, thinking I was just gonna walk across the pole barn with it. I took 3 steps and gently eased it back to the floor.
I ended up getting a hernia. Good thing, too.
In looking at the hernia, they found cancer in the intestines.
Had surgery, they took a one foot section out.
Doc says without the hernia, they never would have found it till it was too late!
After that, the wife decided I needed a real garage with cement floors, a cherry picker, and some engine stands!

At 65 I look at a bad memory as God's exercise program. I am forever walking into a room, forgetting why I'm there and starting over again. Must walk an extra 5 miles a day! The part I really like when you have a wrench in your hand, lay it down then can't find it until you crawl out from under the car and look back.

I must waste an hour a day looking for my glasses. I usually put them in a spot so I won't lose them. And then forget the spot.
Just turned 70 in March. I have the same problem. I have a young mind trapped in an old body. Sometimes my head writes a check that my body can't cash ...........
I turned 65 in April, and I am beat after driving my 4 speed for a while. My left knee has me worried about how many years I can still put in the clutch. I have had quite a few operations on that left foot and I really did not get enough physical therapy on my left leg before I had to return to my maintenance job before 6 months, went by. I would have lost my health insurance coverage, otherwise. The left calf is still smaller than the right after 8 years.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
